Yes there was a slight uptick in the daily deaths but the recovery rate is marching on to the land of 90%. But it is way too early to celebrate or claim victory. This virus is the most dubious pathogen in recent memory. Just look at what is happening in that tiny nation of Taiwan this week. Taiwan has been the poster child of stopping the pandemic cold in its tracks. So far that is. It had implemented one of the toughest lock downs way back at the beginning of the pandemic. It had taken bitter lessons from the 2002-2004 SARS outbreaks. It is one the most densely populated nations in the world. Those of you who traveled there should have seen how congested cities like Taipei, Tainan and other cities there are. It has managed to keep the spread of the scourge in single digits for almost a year until now. But this week new cases have been into hundreds. These are not from people coming from overseas but they are all community spread. The new source(super spreader) could have been someone just returned from overseas and might have infected a hotel employee. That employee goes back home and infects others in his family. So the chain reaction goes. Taiwan had single digit deaths for a long time until now. 10-12 patients have been dying every day this week. It is a lesson to all of us. Citizens there lowered their guards and there goes the pandemic rearing its ugly ad deadly head again. So folks, it is not the time yet to relax and leave ourselves wide open to the virus. This is a stubborn demon!!! So remain alert and stay safe!!!
