Seven Ethiopian opposition forces and armed groups announce a unified political-military coalition aimed at establishing an inclusive transitional administration

(Nairobi, Kenya) — Seven armed groups and political parties operating across multiple regional states of Ethiopia officially announced the formation of a unified political-military coalition named the “Cooperation of Ethiopian People’s Forces for Survival.” The coalition aims to topple Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government.
Broadcast on Sunday through regional media outlets in Tigray, the announcement outlines a shared strategy among member organizations to establish an inclusive transitional administration to succeed the ruling Prosperity Party.
Zemene Kasse, Chairman of the Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM), delivered the joint statement via video address. Introduced as the convenor and head of the coalition—referred to as “Alliance for Survival” or locally as “Tsimdo“—Zemene detailed the joint initiative following approximately eight months of cross-regional political consultation.
The alliance brings together insurgent elements and political fronts from across northern, western, and eastern regional states:
- Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM)
- Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF)
- Oromo Liberation Army (OLA)
- Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF)
- Afar National Unity Revolutionary Front
- Benishangul Peoples’ Liberation Movement
- Gumuz Peoples’ Democratic Movement
While the coalition statement sets out an overarching goal of political transition, constituent member groups have characterized the nature of the alliance differently. In subsequent communications, leadership elements of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) clarified that their involvement represents a procedural consensus to open up political space rather than a binding, unified military command.
Before the official announcement, federal authorities and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed have rejected the alliance, describing the coalition as an “opportunistic gathering of disparate anti-government entities.”
The Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) continues its military campaigns in several parts of Ethiopia. However, it is the Amhara region of Ethiopia that has been the focus of the military operation over the past three years.
The Federal government has not yet released a formal statement in response to the opposition announcement.

“Tsimdo” shows who in fact is behind the new deception. And who warlord Zemene Kassie is working for. I smell Isaias the mercenary of Egypt and the bully of the Horn of Africa who decimated “liberated” Eritrea and the chances of two generations of Eritreans.
War-monger reckless regional bully Isaias is once again at it. This time a rag tag of ambitious crime-prone individuals are assembled with the help of Egypt (Gumuz and Benishangul are supposedly from Asosa where the GERD is located). Old and dying man Isaias is the merchant of death and a mercenary conscript of Egypt who has squandered his chances of improving the lives of Eritreans. For some mysterious reason, Eritreans seem to enjoy being bullied, as they also pride themselves in being colonised by Italian fascists (or regret that they would have preferred to be colonised by poor Ethiopians!). “Seven armed opposition” is no opposition at all. The Rastaman Wannabe of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) is telling this man and Debre, not so fast. He describes emerging alliance among opposition armed groups as procedural consensus, Not Political Agreement. He stressed it to all of us it is a “procedural consensus,” that it does not constitute an agreement on substantive political questions or authorize any participating group to determine the country’s political future. That means after the current regime is defeated and unseated the area that will be under his control, the entire Oromia region including all those districts contested with Somalia, Afar, Sidama and Beni Shangul, Gambella regions, South Sudan and Sudan will not guarantee to stay in the union. Other groups in the alliance do not have the authority to prohibit him from declaring the area under his rule a separate and sovereign republic. That is why you now see bigots in Minnesota, Michigan, Tennessee, Toronto, Oslo and Down Under dancing in their stinking joints. They have started packing up. You folks have been told ‘Ethiopia, out of Oromia’ umpteen times but you did not listen. How did he do that? It must be that Roman Red he has been puffing as a multivitamin dietary supplement.
Also, don’t forget the 1 million Oromos in Kenya. They have been pleading to the leader of former Qeerroo movement and media mogul to come and liberate them for years. We all know the 1 million Bilen and Beja people in Eritrea are 100% related to my Oromos with the same genetic strings. They eventually need to be reunited with their kin and kit. Putting all this hype and publicity aside, the next few weeks and months will show how this alliance operates and puts its plans into action. It is not clear if this ‘alliance’ is still the already publicized ‘Tsimdo’. Some have ‘Tsimdo’ as a united front between the TPLF and the Eritrean government. So with the formation of this ‘Alliance’ what becomes of ‘Tsemdo’? How does this alliance change the structure of the fighting force? Is the alliance situational where a group or groups will send their fighting forces to help a besieged group or does the alliance now have one army united under one command? It is very interesting and something to watch,
As an advocate and a student of peaceful struggle I never endorsed and will never support violence. That stems from substantive fact that there has never been an armed group that brought democratic governance after unseating regimes in the last 250 years except the American War of Independence. Not one! The fact has been one despot goes out just to be replaced by another one. I hope and pray that this alliance is a different kind of an armed group. TPLF failed to breakthru amhara region during the last war to reach addis ababa so they think they are genius by using zemene to open up the amhara door toward addis. Things are now getting even more head spinning. Factions of the fronts that are said to have entered into this ‘alliance’ have just released statements announcing that their groups are not part or even aware of it. They are members of the ONLF and OLF/OLA. They are factions, I guess. It is not a secret that the TPLF is fraught with dissent and desertion. Is this ‘Alliance’ a quickly cooked up ruse for publicity stunt? Phew!!!
It reminds of some of those ‘unities’ we used to be deafened with in the 1990’s and early 2000’s like UDF, CUD, UEDF and others we did not know what to make of them. There were other ‘united fronts’ slapped together at the dumpsites in Asmara after 2005. We were told Alliance for Liberty, Equality and Justice in Ethiopia and its allies the Afar Peoples Party along with the EPPF would march into Addis/Finfinnee by the crack of the day at dawn the next day in 2010. I was one of those who were exited about that declaration. It is like the old time saying of what Sir Anthony Weldon told us in 1651 ‘Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me’. But still I hope NOT!!!

Not too long ago, OLA was claiming that all Amhara’s must leave Oromia region and to strengthen their demand they have showed us lots of murder and all kinds of crime across the region on civilians. OLA even blamed our King Dr Abiy that he is too close with Amhara and he doesn’t represent Oromia. The famous TPLF has identified Amhara as their #1 enemy for over 60 years, and we have seen what they did to Amhara civilians for 30 years. Now they have sighed to work together. Wait how? What is the objective here? It has become very clear that their problem is with Ethiopia’s prosperity and new chapter. It is also clear that there is a foreign involvement in such unity where the goal is to minimize Ethiopia, to block Ethiopia from growing, to open doors for our enemies to play in our backyard etc.

I see this Alliance’ thing is what Debre and his entourage cooked up as a ploy. If it succeeds Debre and his outfit will not stay in Addis/Finfinne. He will kiss and make up with his his bosom daddy in Asmara. I don’t think he is that dumb not to know the fact TPLF is the most hated group outside Tigray. He knows Fano and OLF’s alliance will not last a day after they enter the capital. He will watch them from the safe distance butchering each other like rival predators.
