Toronto – Ethiopia’s Ruling Prosperity Party Meeting is still underway in the capital Addis Ababa. It started a few days ago.
The executive committee and central committee level meeting is said to be restricted for media, including state owned ones, and it is taking place at the national palace.
The agenda of the meeting is not disclosed to the public either.
According to Anchor media, the meeting is expected to conclude in the next two days.
With a devastating large-scale war underway in the Amhara region of Ethiopia for over two years now and active unending insurgency in the Oromia region, Ethiopia has been facing unprecedented internal conflict under the Prosperity Party rule.
Worse, there is a fear that another war could break out in the Tigray region of Ethiopia as the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) is making a move to retake the entire region. Tadesse Worede, the Interim President, dismisses the possibility of war under his administration.
Apart from the conflict situation, the cost of living crisis has been worsening the country especially after the ruling party introduced a “macro-economic reform,” in July 2024 including currency devaluation under the guise of introducing “Market based” forex regime.
Disenchantment has been mounting in the country. However, the ruling party seems to have managed to tighten grips on power with noticeable support from the defense force- among others.
