Moscow proposes mediation during the upcoming Russia-Africa Summit as military tensions escalate between the two Horn of Africa nations

TORONTO, Canada — Russia has expressed willingness to mediate between Ethiopia and Eritrea as the two Horn of Africa nations move toward potential military escalation.
According to a BBC Amharic report, Alimov Alexander Sergeevitch, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, reportedly told Izvestia newspaper that Moscow is ready to mediate.
If both nations are willing, Russia intends to undertake mediation efforts during the Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled for October 28–29, 2026, in Moscow.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed reportedly accepted an invitation to attend the summit following a meeting with President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS summit last month. According to the BBC, Eritrean President Isaias Afeworki is also expected to attend, having visited Russia several times in recent years.
It remains unclear whether the two countries—both of which maintain good relations with Russia—have expressed interest in the proposal.
Earlier this week, the Awuramba Times, an Ethiopian news source with ties to Tigray, reported that Eritrean forces withdrew from most of the Tigray region, retaining a presence only in a few kebeles within the Irob district along the border. Clashes between the two militaries have occurred, but so far fighting has been confined to Ethiopian soil, with the Ethiopian Defense Force relying primarily on drone strikes.
Pro-ruling party Ethiopian media outlets and social media activists claimed Eritrean forces suffered losses in the drone strikes, whereas Eritrea has denied maintaining a military presence in Ethiopia.
This week, the U.S. Secretary of State spoke with the Ethiopian Prime Minister by phone, urging Ethiopia not to cross the Eritrean border. Eritrea has accused the Prosperity Party government of intending to take the Port of Assab by force. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has maintained that Ethiopia will secure access to the Red Sea through negotiation or by any means necessary.

If these two countries clash again in an all out war, every weapon and bullet they will be using against each other are manufactured and sold to them by Putin’s Russia. But I don’t really care who does it and I will be for anyone who can bring the leaders of these two nations to their senses and avoid bloody and destructive war. 1). Ethiopia’s Access to Red Sea [RS] vs. Restoring Ethiopia’s Red Sea Coast [ERSC]: Access to RS must not be about using Asèb. It MUST BE about restoring ERSC. ERSC is from south of Massawa to Djibouti. It is also known as Ethiopia’s Affars’ Autonomous Region [EAAR].
2). UN Charter on Secession vs. Eritrea’s Secession [1991/1993/1998]:
i). Mother Country Consent [MCC]: When Eritrea seceded in 1993, Ethiopia did not have an elected government mandated to ratify Eritrea’s Secession. Hence, there was no MCC! The TPLF/Tigray & EPLF/Eritrea orchestrated Eritrea’s Secession Ratification. Both are Egypt’s Proxy Secessionists that invaded Ethiopia in 1991 & co-ruled Ethiopia till 1998.
ii). Seceding Territorial Boundary: Secession boundary is limited to the region occupied right prior to secession. So, the EAAR is NOT part of Eritrea. In fact, the EAAR was an Affar-Administered autonomous part of Ethiopia.
3). The EAAR from 1889 to 1991:
i). Derg Era [1974-1991]: Administered by Sultan Alimirah.
ii). Haile-Selassie Era [1930-1974]: Part of Wollo, but administered by Sultan Alimirah.
iii). Menelik-II Era [1889–1913]: Sultanate ruled by Sultans of various ranks.

2). Things worth noting to drive this home to the overwhelming majority of Ethiopians:
i). ≈75% of Ethiopians are ≤45 years old. So, most may not know & should be informed. Most government officials are under age 45 & Information Seminars should be offered.
ii). From 1991 to 1998, the EPLF/ሻብያ destroyed almost all Ethio-Eritrea related archives. EPLF & TPLF occupied Ethiopia in 1991 and co-ruled Ethiopia till 1998.
iii). EPLF & TPLF hid this fact from Ethiopians & Eritreans to finish Egypt’s Mission:
(a). Land-lock Ethiopia;
(b). Choke Ethiopia Economically;
(c). Weaken Ethiopia to Fight Back;
(d). Keep Ethiopians & Eritreans Busy Fighting.

2). Amaras, as other 85 ethnics, went to the polls & elected their Amara representatives. They re-elected Abiy’s Party’s AZ representatives for another 5-year term. AU Election Observers were on-site. Amaras elected Amaras! It’s all on tape.
3). Insurrection against elected governments is Domestic Terrorism world-wide. So, Anti-Democracy Domestic Terrorists & Abettors must be dealt a Mortal Blow if they ever resort to armed insurrection [coup/putsch]. That’s the Law world-wide! No Mercy & No Safe Haven for Egypt’s Proxy Dogs in Amara Hats like the ‘Amara Fanno’.
If Russia brings these two to discuss the issues, that is what to expect from a friend and a superpower.
