(Nairobi, Kenya) — Government security forces brutally tortured and executed three young men in cold blood in the Abeshige District of the Gurage Zone, Central Ethiopia, after forcing them off a public transport vehicle and accusing them of being members of the Fano militia, according to local sources cited by Meseret Media.

The victims—identified as Temesgen Getachew, Yitagesu Asegdew, and Gizaw Girmaye, all natives of the Amhara region—were traveling on a public minibus when interceptors stopped them in an area known as Agna.

Local sources reported that federal government forces, operating in coordination with local Abeshige Agna police officers and district militia members, forced the three passengers off the vehicle.

According to local accounts gathered by Meseret Media, the security forces tied the victims’ hands behind their backs with rope, subjected them to severe physical torture, and subsequently shot them in the head at close range.

Following the execution, security personnel transported the bodies to Nacha Kelit Kebele—the local area where the victims resided—and dumped them in the open. Local authorities then imposed a strict ban prohibiting residents and family members from collecting or burying the remains.

As a result of the ban, the bodies remained exposed in the open for three consecutive days with their hands still bound, where scavengers and wild animals desecrated the remains. Residents reported that severe gunshot wounds to the head rendered the victims’ faces completely unrecognizable, leaving the local community in deep shock and grief.

The brutal killings in the Gurage Zone highlight a disturbing pattern of extrajudicial actions and identity-targeted violence taking place behind the scenes, even as official platforms host discussions on peace and regional stability.

Local residents expressed profound anxiety over the total breakdown of law and order, raising urgent concerns regarding the conduct of state security apparatuses and local militias operating across central regional corridors.

Government officials and police authorities in the Gurage Zone and Central Ethiopia Region have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident or the allegations raised by local residents.

  1. This disgusting, loathsome, abhorrent, Cruel killing of innocent Ethiopians reached its climax of Evil deeds! It reminds me of the killing and slaughter of our youngsters by ISIS at the Mediterranean Sea, some years ago. Now, the most horrible thing so called Ethiopian Policemen, Defence force, and Militias openly participated in such type of wicked Deeds! I have, unfortunately, observed Ethiopian Regime is building more & more Prisons, Police stations, so that to choke innocent Ethiopians so that they cannot breathe an air of Peace exactly as the so-called prime minister said it once in his hatred speech!
Almost nine years ago, a well- known Orthodox Twahedo Church, veteran preacher and painter prophesied holding the picture of St. Mary & Our Lord Jesus Christ, earnestly told us in several Church annual Holyday- Occasions, to repentance and Pray so that the coming Years will be extremly dangerous for us all and our Church. I think what we see today is the Prophesy he told us what we confronting today! It was with great earnestness, he tried to convince us, without a loud speaker,in a ver low vocal voice, tried to adress the word of God being presence in almost every Tewahedo Church! This Holy Man already died some years ago! I heard him speaking many invaluable preachings! the coming of an extremely dangerous time through one Man, although, he did not specify the type of man which he wanted to mention, I believe it was about the current prime minister. He also went on to preach his revelations in the Trinity Church of Addis Ababa, I once heard him saying a peculiar explanation of his Vision,
by saying an Unknown Angel of the Lord, took a piece of great piece of land as big as Addis-Ababa from Mount Entoto and then placed it on terrains of Addis Ababa! As for me, this explanation is due to the displacement of the people of Addis Ababa; this is how I interpreted it. He said to us Repent! REPENT! Love Each other! So that to repel the forthcoming of the Evil Time! By the way, many Ethiopians know him.
But I think his words are not respected! He died some years ago. Let his soul rest in Peace. Amen!

In 2013, while I was participating the feast of “St. Michael, Kana Ze Gelila”, at ‘Janhoymeda’ during the mass baptism of the faithful people, I had encountered a certain woman, very old may be in her 80s, impossible to judge the enthusiasm, Will, strength, power she posses at this very age, she also were preaching the upcoming of the devastating time in front of us! She also boldly criticized, the former & Current Politicians of Ethiopia without mentioning their name,in their involvement in the ethnic-based dividers of Ethiopia harshly and gallantly.

To conclude, I would like only to say that,
God Almighty, who always kept Ethiopia from collapsing in different times and Epochs, Let Him Give us the Heart of Knowldge, discerning the wicked, from the Truth, let God the Humble, visit us with His Everlasting Forgiveness!
    Amen.

  2. This is Red Terror déjà vu of the late 1970’s and should be unanimously condemned. It should be brought to the attention of The ICC At The Hague and UN. My question is other media outlets there inside the country and here among our Diaspora are not talking about it? Many of them have been jumping on such repugnant occurrences in the past but now it is only our esteemed website Borkena and their source Meseret Media. I checked on more than 25 websites and social media outlets and found nothing about this.

  3. Abiy Ahmed has been losing control over much of Ethiopia and no surprize if he starts a wide red terror campaign in the country. His weak and disorganized forces have not been able to contain the armed Amhara (Fano) uprising and his rule is facing challenges. The chaotic situation in Ethiopia and his provocative actions will invite Tigray military intervention and operation in Ethiopia which will depose his terror regime. Tigray military intervention in Ethiopia can not be considered as a breach of international law because it can be defended as a stabilizing and security mission.

      • Dear Editors.
The layout with scattered all over the screen and comments did not show or awaiting approval status. All is copacetic. I was concerned because Borkena has been the website where I feel safe the most. As an octogenarian, I don’t have that much left for me on the hopper on this good earth like you young folks. I am trying to make my opinion known as often as I can before the sun gone down below 40 degrees on the horizon on me. Thank you for your valuable accommodation.

Blessings to you and your family.

        • Thank you for that. Borkena pahsed out AMP mobile layout, as they call them, and it has been causing layout issues. The Webhost, which considers itself as top in the market, has claimed that everything is good. It will be switching back and forth as the AMP pages are persisting. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved permanently. You just need to try again a little later or access the menu icon to select they category you would like to access.

          • That was what I thought. I once had my own small business providing my engineering expertise in a specific industrial settings. I had my own website to cater my skills which I ran for almost a decade after retiring from my regular job. There were some hiccups with my website during those years. Clients used to call me asking ‘What are you doing with your website?’ I had closed the business after I became the grandfather of two wonderful grandchildren. The issue was the host.

  4. All is copacetic now. The layout was jumbled up allover the screen on and off for the last two days.

Btw, the main reason I feel safe and comfortable with showing myself on Borkena is many of the websites among our Diaspora search and identify IP addresses of those who post comments on their platforms. I have a software installed on my computers by my son that detects such snooping brown nosers. It wouldn’t bother me if they keep that to themselves but what I heard about some of them is unsettling. They sell the IP addresses to proven despots for chum change. They have declared me persona non grata from posting comments on their websites because I had criticized Al-Toweel Isu and his murderous gangsters in Piccolo Roma. Our people who produced us all, except for a very few scabs, are legendary as proud human beings. That is something you should never ever do.

  5. We have read cases where people disappeared, physically manhandled, shot to death etc by members of law enforcement folks and those fighting the government. I would not be surprised if the excesses by the law enforcement folks and defense forces were committed with the blessings of the Prime Minister. I have no evidence for that but it won’t news to me if he had given orders for that. That has been the history of leaders that come from the military outfit except those officers of the 1950’s Costa Rica and the late President Eisenhower. But I have no evidence that the prime minister has ordered that. It could have been that he may have lost control of these miscreants embedded in the regime’s outfits. If I were him, I will not be sure how I will want to seek another term when the next administration takes office this coming September. I would pass the baton in an orderly fashion leaving no opening for some corporal to usurp political power with the pretext of saving the country from disintegration. That would be Mengistu Part Deux and we should then arrange a somber funeral service for that country.

  6. The news of this murder of these three young men in the most barbaric way is reported to have reached the capital unsettling residents there. It hits home with me because there was similar savagery perpetrated against one of my cousins in 1976 in Western Haraghe. He was a brilliant young man aged about 15 and my most favorite. I was here already and was planning to bring him and send him to school. He was a straight A student raised by his single mother, my aunt. At that time the youth was divided into two very hostile camps in that city. One camp was organized by the Lencho Letta group affiliated with the Haile Fida party. The other group was opposed to the regime then. My young cousin had remained apolitical and neutral. The Lencho Letta group were pestering him to join them which he declined. Then started calling him all kinds of pejorative names like ‘neftegna lackey’ and a ‘Neo-Gobena’. On one occasion he had enough of their name calling and a fight ensued with one of them at the school yard. The other guy ended up with a battered face and bloody nose.

Then the next day they came at his home and took him to the police station. His mother was not home and found out about it when she returned after her daily chores in her merchandizing business. When she went to the police station she was told her son was sent for higher education in the capital and he would contact her as soon as he arrived at his destination. She never heard of him and died wailing for her only child years later. What I heard years later is the Letta group had taken him out the same night and murdered him in the most savage way and tossed his Almighty created body away to the predators in the area between Yabdo and Chiro. My merchant relatives in the capital with my financial backing have tried to find any ruminants of his remains to give him a dignified burial but to no avail. What we found out from the residents in that rural community is tossing dead bodies by the regime supporters was not an isolated case but a routine. They had told my relatives that they even protested about the evil act worrying about their shepherd children because the wild predators might have acquired a taste for human flesh. My plan was to have him cross the border into the then French Territory of Djibouti with the help of my Issa Somali friends and sponsor him to come here to America. My heart still bleeds about him even after 50 years. I feel for the families and loved ones of these young men. May they rest in eternal peace.
