Toronto – Suspect in the death of Keneni Adugna, Andualem Gossa who was her fiancé, appeared on Monday at Arada First Instance Court in the capital Addis Ababa.
Police told the court ” it is still collecting evidence from the medical clinic where she used to get medical follow up,” according to a BBC Amharic news report published on Monday. How long it takes for police to collect it is unspecified.
Keneni was living with her Fiancé at Wudassie Condo of Lemi Kura sub city of Addis Ababa on March 10, 2025. The circumstances under which she fell from the 5th floor of the building around 4 a.m. is still under investigation.
She was a model, advertising professional and Tik Tok sensation among Ethiopians.
Andualem Gossa, the suspect, requested, apparently through his lawyer, to be released on bail but the court denied it on grounds that the case is of a criminal nature. BBC Amharic reported that his lawyer argued that his client does not have a capacity to make evidence – which he said are in the hands of national intelligence and Federal police – disappear. The bail was not allowed.
Police have requested an extension of the day to finalize the investigation. The suspect’s lawyer opposed it saying that police were already given extension on similar grounds of evidence gathering from clinics.
The lawyer is arguing that Keneni Adugna killed herself. “The autopsy result shows that the victim died after falling from the building. The body was not thrown to the ground after she was killed.”
They also argued that Keneni has a history of attempting to kill herself by “taking medicine” – apparently toxic medicine.
Keneni graduated from Arba Minch University in Hydraulics and Water Engineering in 2019. She ventured into modeling and advertising after working for Oromia regional government briefly.
Recently a video footage of her mother pleading for justice, in what she believes to be the killing of her daughter, has been circulating on Facebook.

Crime against our women in the old country has been on the rise since the overthrow of the late Emperor in 1974. Mengistu’s soldiers and local law enforcement gangs were given a free pass to do whatever they wanted on any woman. Those who followed him paid lip service to the rights of women when cases of rape and all forms of violence were on the rise. What followed did not bring any downturn of the violence. Women were the first targets in Tigray and are still being targeted and left with all kinds of communicable diseases including HIV-Aids. In Oromia and Amhara regions, our women are fair game. In fact, the marriage age for girls has come down to the lowest age in these two regions. It seems to be not a priority for the regime that is being besieged on many other fronts. So siege on our glorious women goes on unabated with no end in sight.
