Toronto – Getachew Reda, President of Tigray Interim Administration, is in Addis Ababa after a crisis situation developed in Mekelle. He says he will return.
On Thursday, he had a press conference with Journalists at Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa.
One of the questions he addressed was why he asked for Federal government intervention in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. “We did not make any formal request for the Federal government to intervene in Tigray.“
Tigray Interim Administration is formed due to an agreement between the Federal government and the TPLF in accordance with the Pretoria Agreement. The Interim Administration is part of the Federal government decision.“when there is a danger posed to an administration that is formed due to its will, the Federal government has a duty to reverse it.”
Getachew added “my interest is to avoid war.” He linked the problem in the Tigray region mainly due to what he described as few groups with personal interest linked to illegally amassing wealth. They have been breaking into offices in the region and snatching stamps.
He warned the Federal government not to entertain this group in the name of “negotiation.”
