Clashes erupt in Ethiopia’s North Wollo zone as regional state media reports dozens of armed group members “accepting peace terms“

(TORONTO, Canada) — Fourteen Ethiopian government soldiers were reportedly killed in Sanka, in the North Wollo zone of the Amhara region, with several others wounded.
Sources from the area told a Borkena reporter in Addis Ababa that the casualties occurred following an exchange of fire between Fano forces and the Ethiopian Defense Force on Friday evening.
Intense gunfire broke out in the Gesho Ber and Woyneye localities of Sanka.
Fano forces claimed that 30 “regime soldiers” were annihilated and an unspecified amount of firearms was seized. However, no report was provided regarding casualties on the side of Fano forces.
The Ethiopian Defense Force has not commented on the incident at the time of this writing.
Meanwhile, the Amhara regional state reported that armed groups operating in the Debark district accepted a peaceful option. State media outlet AMC cited the region’s police department to report that 56 Fano fighters, described as armed groups, accepted the peaceful option for the new year.
Debark is one of the areas in the North Gondar Zone of the Amhara region that has experienced recurring fighting between Fano and government forces. Recent reports indicated that Fano forces gained a significant military victory over government forces in the area.
