Toronto – Fano forces operating in the Gondar area of Ethiopia claim that they have killed a senior military commander and 15 other government forces in Gondar. Over 20 others soldiers are said to be wounded.

According to Ethio Focus, local news provider, spoke to Colonel Abera Azanaw, a former member of the Ethiopian Defense Force and mine expert, regarding that the fano forces say was a “special operation.”  Colonel Abera is  currently working with Fano forces operating in the Gondar area. He said the special operation was carefully planned.

The senior military commander who is reportedly killed in the operation is identified as Colonel Asseged.

The operation was undertaken on Friday near Delgi district, Kurabas locality.  Colonel Abrera told Ethio Focus two military vehicles were ambushed in Kurabas. Over 35 forces were escorting Colonel Asseged, the commander.

“The special operation was planned after studying the movement of enemy forces from the nearby military camp,” Colonel Azanaw said.

Tana Brigade, a division of Fano forces operating in the area, was given the mission to execute the operation, it was said.

“We have achieved a shining victory,” said Colonel Azanaw.  From what he said, the vehicles were moving when the Fano forces suddenly unleashed an attack in Kurabas.

At least two other  local Ethiopian news providers based outside of the country have covered the news story. Some social media sources seem to confirm the incident as well.

However, borkena was unable to verify it. The Federal government has not remarked about it.

Over the past two weeks, there were reports of renewed fighting between Fano forces and government forces. Government forces launched a massive offensive last month with the aim to eliminate Fano forces by the end of July.

Citizens reports on social media have been sharing stories of Fano forces military gains with new video footage purportedly showing newly captured government soldiers.
