AFNM forces report capturing multiple towns and hundreds of government troops in coordinated offensives near Addis Ababa

TORONTO, Canada — Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM) forces on Thursday reported massive military gains over government forces in the Shoa area of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
Public relations head Asres Mare shared on his Facebook page that the South Front AFNM Shoa Teklay Gizat 5th Command has taken control of several towns.
Zemero, Mehal Meda, Wogere, Meragna, Rema, Jihur, Anchekorer, Merhabete Tache Bet, Merhabete Lay Bet, and Amba towns are under Fano forces as of Thursday, according to the report.
Rebel forces from five commands coordinated their offensive on Ethiopian Defense Force positions across the aforementioned Shoa areas.
Furthermore, Fano forces reported that 520 government troops were captured in action and several hundred killed. Regarding firearm seizures, the report stated they captured 3 DSKs, 17 Bren machine guns, 15 sniper rifles, 1,575 AK-47 assault rifles, 35 military radio communication devices, and over 452 hand grenades.
However, Fano did not specify the number of its own fighters killed or injured.
The Ethiopian Defense Force has not commented on the claims at the time of this writing, and the story has not been independently verified.
However, U.S.-based Ethiopian Media Services aired video footage purportedly showing captured government forces. Pictures of Fano fighters at landmarks in the controlled towns were also circulating on social media.
The report arrived barely a week after a major rebel military victory in Mekane Selam in the South Wollo area, adjoining the Gojjam region, where a protracted, large-scale Fano insurgency has persisted for over three years.
Most of the towns reportedly controlled by Fano forces in the Shoa area lie within 150 kilometers of the capital, Addis Ababa.
The Ethiopian Defense Force launched a military operation in the Tigray region shortly after seven rebel groups, including Fano forces, announced the “Alliance For Survival” coalition, claiming control over several towns in the region, including Mekelle, Adigrat, Shire, and Adwa, among others.
Meanwhile, the Ethiopian government claims Eritrean forces invaded the Tigray region and demanded their unconditional withdrawal. Eritrea dismissed the claim as a pretext to invade Eritrean territory.

When we think the long running beauty contest is over, then suddenly someone will jump up saying ‘I am more drop dead beautiful. Obviously this area the group claimed is ‘liberated’ and under their control is just a stone throw away from the capital. I looked it up online maps and discovered that it is a mountainous region crisscrossed by deep ravines. I also learned from historical records from the 1930’s where Mussolini’s fascist murderers were not able to make in roads even after poison gassing the area. That was a foreign force but this time a different story. Fanos in the Amhara region are not up against ENDF soldiers made up Oromos, Somalis or any other ethnic groups but they are fighting bloody battles against their own Amhara kin and kit. Just like in Oromia and now in Tigray region, brothers are fighting their own brothers. I remember reading a story of an Amhara father who is working in the local administration fighting his own son who joined the Fano. Group. Such stories just ache my heart. I have no choice but to go down on my knees praying for a divine intervention. O Good Lord The Almighty! I beg you to have mercy on those descendants of Mary Magdalene and Bilal ibn Rabah!!! Please save those noble and harmonious people by reining on bigots and connivers!!!
Q: Is killing Amaras, wreaking havoc & destroying Amaras’ economy, and reducing Amaras to beggars what the Amara Fanno [AF] call “Fighting for Amaras’ Existence!”?
Which Amara are we talkin’ about? Egyptian Amaras & Eritrean Amaras? Never heard of those! As to the Amaras in Ethiopia’s Amara State [AS], they lined-up at the polling stations from 4 AM to past midnight and elected their Amara representatives. Case Closed!
AF’s only ‘contribution to democracy’ during the last election was opening fire on electors lined-up at the polls to elect their Amara leaders. If the AF are as loved by Amaras as they wish, why not run in elections, get elected, and represent Amaras? Hello?
The AF are Egypt & Eritrea’s Dumbest Brain-Dead Proxy Thugs on record! I had many sojourns in Gojjam & Gonder over many years and most live in the Stone Age: No decent shelter! No potable water! No sanitation facilities! No adequate food! Forget electricity!
Thanks to Abiy, Amaras now have thousands of tractors, pumps, irrigated mechanized farms, electricity, etc. Some even received free fully-furnished homes suitable for humans despite AF’s Destructive Anti-Amara Mission. Abiy also brought in investment & jobs! Alas, AF are hell-bent on destroying all that to reduce Amaras to beggars. Eradicate AF! No Mercy!
