Toronto – The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) released a new political statement this week.

It formally called on the Eritrean government for collaboration to avert what it calls a hoovering war in the Horn of Africa.

After the appointment of Tadesse Worede as president of the Interim Administration in the region, the TPLF has regained a considerably strong control over the region.  For several months now, the TPLF has already been working with Eritrea under the newly formed alliance “Tsemdo.”

On the other hand opposition voices from the region continue to report that the organization is undertaking a massive preparation for war in recent months.

The TPLF made the call for Eritrea after organizing “Tigray People’s National Conference” this week in Mekele, seat of the Tigray regional state. As many as 3000 TPLF members, mostly cadres, from different parts of the region have attended the conference, according to reports.

Tadesse Worede was among those who attended the conference.  He reportedly stated that there is a campaign targeting the TPLF. “TPLF can only be extinct or saved due to its internal condition and members.” He insulted those who are against TPLF as “bastard politics.”

Key former TPLF figures like Tadesse Worede has announced a new reformist movement in the Tigray region which is said to be open for opposition parties, civic organizations, professional associations and individuals, with the aim to make the political system in the region an inclusive one ending TPLF’s monopoly. However, the stated that the movement does not have intention to dismantle the TPLF.

One of the mandates Tadesse Worede received during his appointment as president of the Interim Government, back in April, was to “end illegal foreign relation from the region.”

TPLF is acting as a defacto state. It has been accusing the Federal government of failure to implement the Pretoria Agreement – particularly the restoration of displaced people.

On the other hand the Federal government and Getachew Reda led Interim Administration, among other entities, have been pointing finger at the TPLF  for obstructing the return of displaced people.

They have been citing that the organization was putting reinstatement  of its own army and militia forces as a precondition for the return of displaced people in  Wolkait and Humera.

The Ethiopian government has not yet responded to the TPLF statement. However, it submitted a formal complaints letter to the United Nations accusing the Eritrean government of working with TPLF and other rebel groups to attack Ethiopia.

  1. In another news, there was an earthquake that was not too far from the capital of Tigray Region, Mekele. It struck a location just about 32 miles from the capital. I hope and pray there was no damage to property and citizens. It was measured at 5.6 on the Richter scale. I also hope any of the after shocks will all be just harmless minor. Now, look out Awash-Fentale!!!

  2. Bring it on you outdated GANGS, that will be a great opportunity for Ethiopia to dismantle and grab full control of the North. Like Mengistu H/Mariam said, The Norther part of Ethiopia has been a cancer for the rest of the country for very long time. I swear we were dragged as a country because of these Idiots…..
