Toronto – The Oromia region of Ethiopia has been a security nightmare for many years now. Politically motivated massacres of innocent civilians including women and children from the region made headlines for years.
This week, another horrifying crime was committed. Adanech Kumsa, a resident of Sendafa town and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), was reportedly killed. She was working at the Aleltu Branch of CBE. She had been shuttling between Aleltu and Sendafa for work.
The mother of two was killed on Monday. Her children are 15 (boy) and 13 ( girl).
Her body was reportedly dumped in the sewage and was devoured by Hynas. According to sources, only some body parts were recovered, and a funeral was held in the town.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) Management, Board and Employees on Friday conveyed a condolence message on the Bank’s social media page. It described it as “sudden death.”
Tsegaye Asalfew, who is identified as a suspect, is said to be known to the victim and had a romantic interest.
He shot her with a handgun and reportedly dumped the body near a sewage tube in the area.
Residents living close to the crime scene have reportedly said that they have heard a gunshot but could not understand what transpired when they got out to check it.
DW Amharic cited Kassahun Kumsa, sibling, as saying that Tsegaye Asalefew and his sister met when she was working at the Aleltu branch of CBE. He approached her for a romantic relationship but she expressed that “she can not accept his question as she is raising two children.”
However, the suspect was stalking her. On Monday, she spent the day in Addis Ababa for work -related training with CBE.
“The suspect was waiting for her on the way back home and forced her for dinner in a restaurant,” Kassahun told DW Amharic. As she tried to run away from the restaurant, the suspect followed her, and killed her.
The source said that it reached out to Commander Nigatu Alemu, head of Sendafa Police criminal police department for a remark. The commander said that “he is in a meeting.”
Killings targetting women has become a recurring incident and is happening in different parts of the country. In September this year, a college student girl was killed in the evening in Dessie, Amhara region of Ethiopia.

May she rest in eternal peace. Femicide crime is reported to be on the rise especially in the two regions of Amhara and Oromia. It is also reported that killings of young women have been going on for so long in Tigray that it is taken as a daily routine to hear such news in that region. Debre and his entourage have to keep their rag tags fully serviced because he is busy shoe shining the boots of Al-Toweel Isu. In Oromia, if you have an attractive wife in areas being overrun by the Rastaman Marroo, that would be a death sentence and if you have an attractive daughter or sister, you should assume that you will lose them soon. If you resist or complain about it, you are as good as dead. The same goes in the Amhara region. I guess that is called liberating people.
This is how they will make Oromia greater again. By killing mothers and Children. Drunk with the poison of Ethnicity and Language identity these morons cannot distinguish what they call theirs and others. What a travesty of a political ploy. Rubbish!
The same goes in the so-called Amhara region and Tigray. Daily killings and fabrication of worthless news come out of these areas as well. Wake up and see where the road is taking you. Time is flying by you, and you are still claiming to kill and capture Ethiopian soldiers as if they are outside invaders. We are tired of killings no matter who the wrongdoer is. We are tired of hearing about starvation and Famine. Fix your country and learn to live together. The world is rejecting you. There will be no escape to any other country anymore. No one wants you. Lay down your guns and work for peace and the country as whole. The political wind is shifting daily. Who in their right mind thought Israel will be the first to recognize Somaliland? Anyone. I bet not. But all these twists and turns are a political calculation done by Washington. Who will be the 2nd country that will add their name by recognizing Hargiessa? Wait and see…. all these are tied to the stability/instability of the horn of Africa. Yet Fano and OLA and TPLF still believe they can get back to 4 Kilo through fighting and bloodshed. This endeavor will also fail. Stop fighting and let our people breathe fresh air and elect whomever they want to put in power!
I also want to demand the Ethiopian government to release all political prisoners without condition immediately. Fighting Fano/Ola/TPLF etc… nonstop will sap the resources of the country and weaken the government as whole. A strong government is a government that hears the heartbeat of its citizens. It is high time Prosperity Party take heed and act upon a democratic path. Only then, we will be able to push back the call from outside enemies of Ethiopia as one people. Otherwise, we will continue killing each other for no valid reason until times end!
