The opposition party demands immediate federal security deployment and judicial investigations following continuous civilian killings and religious persecution in Arsi Shirka

By Staff Writer
(Nairobi, Kenya) — The Amhara National Movement (NaMA) has released a statement condemning continuous civilian massacres and religious persecution across the country, explicitly accusing federal and regional government structures of operational negligence and political failure to protect vulnerable communities in Arsi Shirka.
In its official release, the opposition party stated that repeated killings, mass displacements, and property destruction targeting civilian populations—alongside clergy, deacons, and believers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC)—demonstrate a profound lack of political commitment by state authorities. NaMA asserted that the continuous loss of life highlights a complete breakdown of administrative justice, alleging that federal and regional security leadership share responsibility for the ongoing bloodshed due to their failure to establish reliable accountability mechanisms.
The party sharply criticized regional government communication offices for resorting to self-defensive press releases and political excuses rather than implementing immediate security measures on the ground. Pointing to an unprecedented erosion of basic constitutional rights, NaMA warned that official inaction has severely damaged public trust in state institutions.
To address the deteriorating security crisis, NaMA outlined three urgent demands: the immediate deployment of a reliable federal security force capable of protecting threatened communities beyond mere verbal condemnations; a thorough judicial investigation to identify and prosecute both direct perpetrators and negligent local officials; and the urgent provision of comprehensive rehabilitation and financial support for bereaved families and displaced victims.
