Toronto – Mekelle bound Ethiopian Airlines flight was reportedly diverted back to Addis Ababa before touching down Alula Aba Nega airport in the city.
Local news sources are citing Radar24 to report that ET100 (DH8D) flight which departed from Addis Ababa around 7: 50 a.m. returned to Addis Ababa.
There were also flight delays to the same destinations several hours after that.
Ethiopian Airlines has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
However, local outlets like TIk Vah, Telegram Channel based news outlet, reported that it reached out to Ethiopian Airlines. It is cited as saying the situation was related to “regular technical practice, not for any other reason.”
The technical problem is linked to ground level communication equipment issues. However, the causes of that particular issue are left murky.
TIk Vah also cited Ethiopian Airlines as saying “the plane returned to Addis Ababa because there was no jet fuel in Mekelle. It is from Addis Ababa that the place fills round trip fuel.”
The issue was reportedly resolved, and regular scheduled flights resumed thereafter, it was said.
