Five Unarmed Civilians Wounded as Army 43 Reportedly Fired on the People in Mehoni, Tigray region of Ethiopia

Toronto – Five civilians are reportedly wounded in Mohoni town South Tigray as Army 43 members directly shot on the people on Wednesday.
In an interview with Ethiopian Media Services (EMS), Girmay Tsegay Deputy Head of Security for the South zone said three of those wounded were taken to Ayder referral hospital in Mekelle which is about 126 kilometers north. Two are in a hospital in Mehoni.
Army 43 was reportedly on a mission to arrest or kill Colonel Halefom Mehari whom Girmay Tsegay described as head of Raya Azebo district militia office. He also had a commander role in Army 24 of what politicians from the region describe as “Tigray Defense Force.”
Colonel Halefom is said to have opposed the army’s move to support the faction of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) under Debretsion Gebremichael. Girmay was more specific in his interview with EMS.
The army’s forceful move to remove officials in South Tigray, in a show of support to the Debretsion faction of the TPLF, did not appear to be in the interest of the people – the reason Colonel Halefom resisted.
“He chose to stand on the side of the people,” Girmay told EMS. There are also other military leaders who are taking the same path in opposition of TPLF and army alliance to impose will by force.
Alem Grebwahed, Debretsion Gebremicael and Fetlework Gebregziabhier (Monjorhino) – a new acronym ADM (ADEME) is confined is confined as a label – are said to be behind the powerful forces driving the forceful measure to impose their will on the people including in the parts of Tigray where there is an active resistance to them as in the case of South Tigray.
Girmay revealed that the Interim Administration under Tadesse Worede is in a weaker position as there is another powerful group running the political show in the move to restore uncontested TPLF power across the region. Many of Tadesse Worede’s Interim Administration Cabinet is said to be from the TPLF faction under Debretsion Gebremichael. Girmay even went to the extent of claiming that Eritrea is behind a powerful group on whose shadow Tadeses Worede is pretending to run the regional affairs of Tigray.
The people in Mehoni were reported to be in a state of anger as Army 43 came to the area with a capture or kill mission. Youth Groups organized to maintain security in Mehoni confronted, as Girmay told EMS, army 43 in a move to protect Colonel Halefom.
The Colonel is said to be in a safe condition at the time of this writing.
“If there was an offense that Colonel Halefom committed, they could have dispatched a police force. Sending an army directly to capture him was not right,” Girmay told EMS.
Furthermore, Girmay warns that the people need peace. He sees the move to impose a will by force will eventually lead to a crisis and it will not benefit any one, he added.
