TORONTO, Canada – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio this week made a controversial remark regarding the coalition of 7 rebel groups against the ruling Prosperity Party government with whom the United States has a strong relation.
Mr. Rubio characterized the alliance as a separatist movement. Also, he regarded the military action from the rebel groups – including a target in Addis Ababa – a “terrorist” activity. The Rebels alliance has responded, by releasing an official statement, to it calling his remark “legally inaccurate, politically inappropriate and unwarranted.”
Rubio’s remark has become a taking point. In an interview with Anchor Media, Abiyu Berele, one of the veteran EPRP leaders, says Marco Rubio “does not seem to have correct information about the situation in Ethiopia.”
