Toronto – Ethiopia and Kenya on Wednesday signed the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA). It was signed in the capital Addis Ababa.
According to a news release from Ethiopia’s Defense Force, this is the second defense agreement signed between the two countries. The first one was signed when Kenya got its independence in 1963.
Field Marshal Berhanu Jula and General Charles Muriu Kahariri signed the agreement at the Defense Force Headquarter.
According to the source, the agreement was signed following intense discussion on Defense cooperation. The two countries will be cooperating on strategic defense issues.
Intelligence sharing, military training, defense industry, border security, and the fight against terrorism are identified as areas of cooperation.
Ethiopian Defense Force News cited General Charles Muriu Kahariri as saying that the relation between the two countries transcends history and is built on culture, people to people relation and geography.
He is also cited as saying that the defense agreement between the two countries has greater relevance for “peace and security in the region,” and that the “Kenyan Defense Force is determined to cooperate with the Ethiopian Defense Force.”
The Defense Force has been mired in a domestic conflict in the Amhara and Oromia region. The operation in the Amhara region is a full fledged one with the deployment of mechanized units and drone combat operations. The operation it planned to complete in a “few weeks” is still raging after well over two years.
There have been signs in recent months that the Ethiopian Defense is seemingly preparing for war with Eritrea over the port of Assab too. The Eritrean government has recently been warning that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government is preparing for war.

I just returned from Al-Qahirah after consoling el-Sisi. He was totally despondent after Brother Ruto of Kenya told him to take a hike. Poor el-Sisi tried to admonish Ruto for attending the ceremonial gathering at GERD Dam and Ruto told him to buzz off. He topped that off by signing a 2nd military cooperation agreement with Ethiopia. That is his way of saying ‘hayeelikethat?’ The 1st such military agreement was signed 62 years ago in 1963. Poor boy Sisi has been crying rivers the entire week. Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and DR of Congo could be next. Brother President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia just told el-Sisi that Somalia will never allow him to use it’s territory to wage war against Ethiopia. Poor Caucasian-wannabe el-Sisi!!!
