Ethiopia and South Sudan have been discussing economic partnership for a long time now

Toronto – Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, was in Juba on Friday, South Sudan, for what the Ministry described as a “working visit.”
He met with President Salva Kiir Mayardit, to whom he delivered a message from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The Ministry reported that the two discussed “bilateral and regional issues of shared interest.”
Gedion also met with Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc, South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
According to an update from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions focused on economic cooperation and strategic partnership. The two countries are collaborating on a joint infrastructure project. (You can read the details here )
Meanwhile, tense political developments have been reported in South Sudan over the past few days. President Salva Kiir’s government arrested the Petroleum Minister and some military officials, who were said to be supporters of First Vice President Riek Machar, according to a Reuters report. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had previously been involved in mediating between Salva Kiir and Riek Machar a few years ago.
