Toronto – The Amahra Fano National Force (AFNF) on Sunday announced on its social media page that it has gained a military victory in Durbete, Gojjam area of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
It said it has killed 10 government troops and 8 militia forces. The town of Durbete itself is under the control of Fano forces, according to an update the group shared on social media.
There are also wounded soldiers and militia forces who were reportedly admitted to the hospital in the town. The number is unspecified at the time of this writing.
In addition to human casualties, it is also said that 20 AK 47, 10 SKS rifles and 350 ammunition were seized from government forces. Two pick up vehicles are reportedly burned.
AFNA did not disclose the number of casualties on its side.
The Ethiopian Defense Force did not remark on it at the time of this writing. It has been making claims of victory over Fano forces this week. The story is available here.
AFNF said it was the Tewodros Command of Agew Mider, Abe Gubegna Division that carried out the offensive in Durbete.
It is not immediately clear if the Fano forces are still in control of the town. Usually, they withdraw forces a day or so after hard fought control over towns.
The Gojjam area of the Amhara region has been one of the areas where there has been an intense battle between the government forces and Fano forces for well over two years now.
There has been a recurring human rights violation in the area by government forces ranging from extrajudicial execution to drone attacks targeting civilian institutions like hospitals and schools.
In a related development, AFNA on Sunday announced that the commando forces have been training for six months in West Amhara.

The force is organized under Tewodros Command 8th Belay Zeleke Division, Shiferaw Gerbaw Brigade, AFNF announced. Pictures of the commando forces were shared on social media as well.
However, the number of newly trained forces is unspecified.
