Ethiopian Federal Government still silent as tension escalates in the region

Toronto – As expected TPLF , through the Pre-war Tigray regional Council, named Debretsion Gebremichael as president of the region.
Sources close to the TPLF said it was the sixth year session of the sixth regular session of the council that “elected” Debretsion Gebremichael as president.
Kiros Hagos is named speaker while Mihret Berhe is assigned to the deputy speaker role.
The move came amid growing concern from the diplomatic community in Addis Ababa including the European Union. They expressed concern that TPLF action could reignite conflict in the region.
The United States was reportedly working to entice TPLF leaders from taking actions that jeopardize the Pretoria Agreement which ended the two years bloody war with the Federal government.
At the time of this writing, the Abiy Ahmed led Federal government has not released a statement regarding the situation in Tigray.
The TPLF nullified the Pretoria Agreement in a reaction to the extension of Tadesse Worede’s, who was himself a TPLF member, term as president of the Interim Administration in Tigray – one of the key Pretoria Agreement arrangements.
It said the extension violates the agreement as the Federal government action in extending Tadesse terms is a “unilateral action.” The Federal government argues that it was lawful. Abera Nigus, Addis Ababa based an ethnic Tigray lawyer and one of the key opinion leaders from the region, says both the TPLF and Federal government actions are illegal.
Concern is still growing that the TPLF action could lead to another devastating war in the region. Actors like the European Union tend to see that if conflict breaks out again, it will affect the entire region.
The United States has been quietly working to avert conflict in the region including by threatening the TPLF leaders with sanction regimes including asset freeze and travel ban.
The Eritrean government is supporting the TPLF action. Reports indicated that the Eritrean government is particularly interested in the election of Debretsion as president of the region. The Ethiopian government has been accusing Eritrea of violating its sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Awamba Times founder Dawit Kebede reported on his social media page that roads leading to the President office in Mekelle were closed on Tuesday following TPLF’s action. He added that there were also reports of SU-27 fighter jets maneuvering over Mekelle Skies.

OMG, this snake still trying. Ethiopian army should fire missile or drones where Debre Tsion and his retard groups live. Tigray people don’t have to be dragged again and again. I am also troubled by Tigray men, women and young people, they just have big mouth, no balls. How come TPLF allowed to destroy Tigray again and again? They should fight TPLF themselves before everything is shut down and hunger circles back…
Hey Debre,
How about tossing a few hands full of those gold nuggets my way? Don’t worry. I’ve the blessings of your boss and my longtime homeboy Al-Toweel Isu. He said its okay.
TPLF, together with other ethnocentric groups, is responsible for introducing and aggressively applying Ethiopia’s tribal-based so-called federal system, built on highly controversial ethnic divisions. For generations, our people lived together with relatively limited conflicts despite their ethnic and linguistic diversity. However, this irresponsible political demarcation based on ethnicity and language has fueled and escalated existing tribal tensions to the worst levels, leading to hundreds of thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions from their birthplaces.
Particularly for the Amhara ethnic people, this ethnic-based so-called federal system has functioned like a racial segregation and apartheid structure. It has encouraged radical groups to carry out massacres and ethnic-cleansing campaigns in ways comparable to the tragedies that occurred in Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia.
The recent war in northern Ethiopia was part of an expansionist attempt by TPLF to return to totalitarian rule by attacking the Northern Command from behind, even though the same National Defense forces had been protecting the Tigray people. The conflict involved brutal attacks, rape, and violence against women, children, seniors, and disabled people. This aggression could have been prevented through genuine negotiations between the two major political forces, sister parties under the former ruling front EPDF, TPLF, and OPDO, which have long competed for power.
During the war, the Amhara people were subjected to immense suffering. In response, the patriotic armed movement known as Fano emerged to defend and seek the emancipation of the Amhara people from invading forces. However, under what many consider an unfair peace agreement supported by Western powers—whom many accuse of hostility toward the Amhara people because of their historic patriotic resistance against colonialism and neo-colonialism—there was no genuine Amhara representation in the Pretoria Agreement.
Meanwhile, TPLF was given time and opportunity to reorganize and strengthen itself. Today, it has openly acted against the existing federal system and international norms. No province or regional authority is legally permitted to conduct foreign relations independently, yet countries such as the United States have continued to engage with the TPLF outside the framework of Ethiopia’s federal government.
Therefore, the decision to allow the re-legitimization or political restoration of TPLF under the current federal structure is viewed by many as contrary to the rule of law and potentially dangerous. Such actions risk bringing further instability, renewed suffering to the Tigrayan people, and additional negative consequences for the entire nation of Ethiopia.

The regional power Tigray will no longer tolerate the provocations of the weak and incompetent regime of Abiy Ahmed. TDF will likely start a targetted military operation in Ethiopia to oust the regime. Most Ethiopians are for Tigray military intetvention in Ethiopia.
Did you know that if Debretsion is not the president of something, he would not know what to do with himself? Clinging to power is the only way he can live a lavish life. Furthermore, the only way he could make speeches to abused and submissive Tigrayan crowd.
