Toronto – The United States might be freezing assets of selected Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) political and military leaders if the organization is triggering war that could cause a regional security concern.
Awuramba Times on Tuesday reported that the United States Embassy on Monday travelled to Mekelle where they spent hours meeting with three key TPLF leaders : Debretsion Gebremichael, Fetlework Gebregziabhier, and Addis Alem Balema.
It came at a time when the TPLF disclosed, through Addis Alem Balema who was speaking this week to the TPLF supporters in the diaspora via phone, it will finalize a move to reinstate the pre-Pretoria agreement TPLF administration in Tigray.
Recently, the organization announced that it does not accept the extension of Tadesse Worede’s terms as President of the Tigray Interim Administration.
Opposition leaders like Salsay Weyane Tigray – which is operating in the region – and other politicians in the region are warning that the TPLF move- which will inevitably involve some form of military measure as the interim administration is rejecting their demand – could reignite war in the region.
The source unspecified the identities of the U.S. Embassy delegates who met with the leaders. However, it has hinted that three U.S. embassy diplomats might have involved the military attaché.
The TPLF asserts that its campaign is intended to “restore lost territories” – a reference to Wolkait and Raya areas where there had been a movement against what they believe is an “imposed” Tigray identity. It also asserts that its move is to ensure the return of displaced people to their places.
The U.S. officials on the other hand seem to have framed the conversation from the point of view of the United States Security interest in the region. According to the source, the U.S. officials communicated that TPLF’s decision to reverse the Pretoria Agreement and reinstall the pre-Pretoria TPLF administration could reignite war with a potential to be a regional one. It is using leverages to influence reconsideration of the decision. The U.S. was one of the key actors in the course of the Pretoria agreement although it was undertaken under the auspices of the African Union.
The embassy officials were there to inform the TPLF leaders of the potential consequences of their intended action. TPLF leaders’ assets in the United States could be frozen. Selected military and political leaders could also face travel ban. There have been rumors and social media reports that the TPLF leaders have a considerable big assets in the U.S. including residential homes. However, who owns what is unknown to date.
The sources also added that U.S. embassy diplomats were in Tigray last week to meet with Tadesse Worede, He has briefed them about the situation. He had been rejecting TPLF military threats to oust him from power by force. The U.S. officials were

Regardless of what the west says or thinks about TPLF, I say it is in Ethiopian government hand to end TPLF once and for all. I am sure Tigray people has learned by now that there is no Golden Tigray, there is no country called Tigray while food, clothing’s and other necessary stuff come from other regions. everyone in Tigray must stand together to dismantle TPLF once and for all for their own benefit… and to catch up with development like other regions..

I remember reading an article during the hay days the EPRDF run by the TPLF. It was somewhat investigative. It was about the then spokesperson of that group and his business property here in the USA that included several gas stations and convenient stores. That was the longtime spokesperson of the TPLF. I remember him giving press briefing about the military.operation successes of his front on Mengistu’s army on CSPAN channel in DC in the late 1980’s. I will never forget him being presented as Dr. and his war worn gaunt face. I am sure he and his conniving friends are filthy rich multi millionaires by now still financing their front. Who knows what they own in other parts of The West, Africa, Asia, Down Under and the Middle East. They had free for them easy access to that nation’s coffers up to 2018. Many global financial organizations had reported that between the years 2002 and 2012 alone money to the tune of 15 billion in US dollars was pilfered from that nation’s treasure and hauled away outside that country. They were sending their children overseas but the children of the average citizen in Tigray to raging war infernos. These sheik-albahrs/old man of the seas are still riding on the backs of those noble people of Tigray. What a nightmare!!!
