Toronto – Boni, Ethiopian TikToker with over 800K followers (@bonilove12) reportedly took her own life. The news emerged on social media on Thursday. But the incident took place on Wednesday in her own residence. No information is currently available about its location.
Boni also has over 298K followers on facebook.
She was seen live on Tik Tok with what turned out to be her last video recording. This time she was holding a red rope with which she reportedly hanged herself in her own residence.
He was speaking in Oromiffa. What is said to be a translation of her last words is circulating on social media.
“The day I have been waiting for is here. I have worked and experienced life. I have experienced marriage. Now I want to rest. Today is my last day ; you will not find me alive after this hour. I came to say bye. Those of you whom I have wronged forgive me. For those of you who wronged me I have forgiven you. The only thing that can give rest is death” she said as she was holding the red rope in her hand.
Her followers have been pouring out messages of grief and condolences on social media following news of her passing.
Divergent views emerging on social media regarding the causes for her decision to take her own life. Many, including psychiatrist Dr. Abebayehu Beletu who practices in Addis Ababa, tend to link it to abuses on social media and hate comments.
However, there are also others who point fingers at her marital life. It appears that she did not show it in any of her social media video contents.
Police did not remark on her death so far and there is no indication if an investigation is launched. No information if autopsy examination was administered.
Her body arrived in Nekemte, Wollega in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, on Friday where she will be laid to rest. Over 50,000 people crowded the streets of the town.
It appears that she lived in Addis Ababa and was making a living as a social media influencer.
There had been similar incidents of suicide by social media celebrities in Ethiopia. As well, there were reported suspicious deaths of social media personalities.

Such tragedies are the worst nightmare for parents. Such young individuals would never show any signs of their suicidal thoughts until it is too late for their loved ones to effectively intervene and stop it. We just lost our daughter so loved by so many. May she rest in eternal peace!!!
