Prime Minister Holds Tight-Security Meetings as Prosperity Party Prepares New Administration Following Seventh General Election Results

TORONTO, Canada — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is reportedly working on his new cabinet as his government is poised to start another term months after the National Electoral Board declared his party winner of the 7th General election.
According to the Wazema Report published on Friday, he will be removing 70 to 80 percent of ministers who have been serving in the past five years.
Their source added that the Prime Minister had meetings—under tight security arrangements including restriction of cellular phones to the meeting room. The ministers are already informed that they need to be ready for “a different mission.”
The decision will affect ministers and state ministers, according to the Wazema report.
Three opposition party figures were given three ministerial positions under the outgoing cabinet. Berhanu Nega from EZEMA, Belete Mola from NaMA, and Kejela Merdassa from Oromo Liberation Front had been serving as cabinet ministers.
If the report from Wazema is accurate, Abiy Ahmed is still considering a few cabinet positions for opposition politicians. However, no further information is available. Yet, at this point no opposition figures are informed about possible roles in the new cabinet that Abiy Ahmed is crafting.
The parties who accepted the position in the outgoing cabinet faced a legitimacy crisis as they were considered to be “managed opposition” as some critics call them.
Over the past few weeks, unverified rumors circulated across various media outlets regarding the health of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, though analysts note such reports frequently emerge during political transitions.
Meanwhile, the administration continues to face protracted armed resistance in the Amhara and Oromia regions, alongside mounting friction with the TPLF in Tigray. Over the past two months, the Ethiopian Defense Force has carried out several drone strikes targeting facilities in the region, while local accounts cited by DW Amharic indicate that insurgent forces have utilized public infrastructure for military positioning. Compounding these security challenges, the administration faces the emerging Tsemdo armed coalition, which regional rebel leaders report is advancing its organizational alignment.
