Ethiopia: Addis Ababa Launches Over 2 Billion Birr Worth Road Projects

November 11, 2019 (ADDIS ABABA) – Addis Ababa City Roads Authority on Sunday launched the construction of three new road projects at a cost of 2.2 billion birr.

Construction of the new road projects was officially launched in the presence of Addis Ababa’s Deputy Mayor, Engineer Takele Uma and other senior government officials.

Thus, the first asphalt road projects is a 5.5 km long that stretches from Bole Michael ring road towards the entrance of Bulbula Caba district.

The second one will be built from Awtobs tera – Kolfe sub-city and it is a 3.4km long and 40 meters wide.

This route is known for is high traffic congestion.

The third road project stretches from Tilahun Gesesse  Square to Gazebo Square, and it is said to be 1.1 km long with 10 meters wide, including the sidewalk.

The newly launched three road projects will be built by the Chinese, Group Seven and Ethiopian Aser construction companies.

All the projects are expected to be completed within two years period.

Addis Ababa Deputy Mayor Engineer Takele Uma said that there should be no waste of time for the projects to be completed.

He said his administration will closely follow the construction of the projects to ensure that the roads are maintained on time and to the required quality.

Social Cluster Coordinator, in the rank of Deputy mayor, Engineer, Endawek Abte, who initiated a road project from Bole Michael to Bulbula Caba, to his side said that the city administration is working to focus on the development of road infrastructure suitable for the city.

He called on the community to contribute to the implementation of boundary management so that the projects can be completed per schedule.

Completion of the road projects, are hoped to resolve the current heavy traffic congestion existing on routes from Mesqal square towards Bole sub-city by allowing alternative routes.

In the current Ethiopian fiscal year, construction of some 20 road projects are underway in different parts of the city.

  1. Kotebe road is the oldest road built during the invasion of Italy, connecting Addis Ababa to Asmara and one of the most abandoned and refused from any repair or construction for 27+ years!! Woyane hated the people of Kotebe because they put up resistance against Woyane entrance and rule and that resulted in vindictive Woyane vengeance!!!,

    Yet too many constructions and roads have been constructed to connect to the south and the southern region from Addis Ababa.

    Whats up with that double standard and abuse of power?
