TORONTO, Canada — Barely two days after a devastating drone strike targeting a monastery in the Amhara region, another report attack is reported on Orthodox Christians.

Hadiya and Silte Dioceses of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church announced on Friday that the incident took place in Ameka district, Tagnagnaw Betara locality.

The attack targeted a church. The diocese has reported the “destruction of properties.”

According to the dioceses, the attack occurred on Wednesday around 1 p.m. local time.

“An organized group carried out a sudden attack on six Ethiopian Orthodox Church followers,” it was said. No death or life-threatening injury is reported.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church Holy Synod has not released an official statement on the latest incidents of attacks, including the drone strike on the monastery in the Amhara region.

The Central Ethiopia Regional Government Communication Affairs Bureau has not remarked on the incident.

There have been recurring attacks from organized groups targeting Ethiopian Orthodox Church followers in the past few years, mostly in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. Hundreds of followers of the church were brutally massacred. The Federal Government and the Oromia regional state had been linking the attacks to a group they call “Shane” — a group that calls itself the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).

Last month, His Holiness Abune Mathias and the Holy Synod demanded on the government to discharge its responsibility of protecting citizens and ensure the right to freedom of religion.
