TORONTO, Canada   Ethiopian Defense Force Reportedly carried out a drone strike targeting Ancient Monastery in Wollo in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

Two nuns and six priests were killed in the attack on Arsema Monastery in Mekane Selam, Wollo.  They died on the scene. Dozens were wounded, the number was not immediately specified.

An Ethiopian Orthodox insider reported that the incident took place on Wednesday around 10:30 a.m. local time.

Images purportedly showing bodies of the nuns and severely damaged structures of the monastery are circulating on social media which has stirred anger.

Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church ( The Holy Synod ) has not remarked on it at the time of writing. Likewise, the Ethiopian Defense force has not confirmed or denied the incident.

The tragedy has stirred noticeable anger on social media. It came as the Ethiopian Defense Force is intensifying offensive against Fano forces across the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

Arsema Monastery in  Mekane Selam. South Wollo is one of the ancient monasteries in the country.

Followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church have been facing persecution in the past few years in different parts of the country. Particularly in Arsi, Oromia region of Ethiopia  killings targeting Orthodox Christians  has been recurring. Unlike the drone strike, the killings in this part of the country were linked to , the government claims, militant ethnic Oromo Nationalist group – OLA.

During his last appearance at the Ethiopian parliament, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed described the Arsi killing on the eve of the 7th general election last month as one that was aimed at “disrupting the election.”

  1. Since drone strikes are real-time operations and since they allegedly continue to cause civilian casualties, the ENDF should look in to each drone operator’s track record.

Ethiopia must speedily implement a Robust Witness Protection Program to guarantee the safety of informants to tackle present & future Domestic Terrorists [The Enemy Within].

This tragedy is neither an isolated incident nor the last. We should ask: Who orchestrates them? What is in it for the Amaras that the Amara Fanno [Misnomer] claims it fights for?

Who is laughing at Ethiopians watching Ethiopia destabilized by none other than the Egypt-sponsored →The Enemy Within [Amara Fanno, TPLF-TDF, OLF-IFLO, etc.]?

For peace in Ethiopia, Ethiopia MUST use every means at its disposal to stop Eritrea from serving as the incubation center, breeding ground, and springboard for these Domestic Terrorists [DTs].

The Modus Operandi of The Enemy Within have been turning sacred public institutions [schools, mosques, monasteries, etc.] in to HQs, weapon depots, training grounds, etc. Isn’t it ironic when the regional governments turn a blind eye while DTs mushroom?

When Negadras Eskinder Nega was using the Debre-Elias Monastery as HQ & depot, the ENDF went to negotiate their surrender. Alas, one of those firing a Kalashnikov rifle at the ENDF was the Head of the Monastery himself! [ → youtu.be/pHfPNs2Xr9k?t=1 ]
