Today’s active cases have gone down by almost 1,000 slinging the recovery rate through the roof!!! It is closing on 90% y’all standing at 87% today. I am sure Patriot H.E. Dr. Lia bint Tadesse are staring down at the new strain wreaking havoc in the UK and upped the ante in the vetting process of incoming travelers. I am not so worried about bigots throwing another wrench in her blessed effort because they are either in jail where they belong or running for their lives. But what worries me now is if this new strain enters thru the porous routes beyond her reach and gets into metropolitan areas like the capital and other large town. Other than that in my grading card she is at summa cum laude and there is nothing you can do about it to have me change that even to magna cum laude!!! This commendable achievement did not just drop from the sky or someone else handed to her and her very capable team but it is the combination of coming up with a winning plan and staying the course along with the long tradition that has existed in that society regarding times of pandemics. You name any ethnic group. It is a given that when pandemics like smallpox and others break out in a village the first thing inhabitants do is isolate the sick. I remember when I was a young boy when one of our friends developed known symptoms of the smallpox. His father hastily built temporary room(igloo shaped thatched room) just outside the main house and brought his auntie to look after him. She was chosen because she had survived the affliction when she was a young teenager and believed she would not be infected again. Who said you have to go Columbia Medical School to know about immunity after infection? My cattle herding Itu clan had already figured it all out. Then we were told to stay as far away as possible from that house. He was fortunate to survive the disease but lived the rest of his life with spots on his face and body.
That has been the way the citizens have been handling this outbreak. They have also been heeding her advice to wear masks and minimize social distancing. That is a winning combination of an over qualified leader at the top and Allah Blessed citizens listening and cooperating.
This shall pass soon. Insha’Allah!!!
