Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethio Telecom has officially launched a new nationwide digital marketplace named Zemen Gebeya, aiming to modernize Ethiopia’s trading ecosystem and boost economic connectivity across the country.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the telecom provider described Zemen Gebeya as “a platform designed to connect suppliers of goods and services with consumers,” while enabling inclusive access and digital integration within the country’s commerce system.
“This digital market ushers in a new chapter for Ethiopia,” Ethio Telecom said, adding that it will “serve as a foundation for innovation and broad-based growth accessible to all citizens.”
The company emphasized the platform’s potential to empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by creating new market opportunities and simplifying their connection to consumers. “It facilitates easy interaction between sellers and buyers, enabling business expansion and new economic possibilities,” the statement added.
The launch is also expected to play a key role in advancing Ethiopia’s digital and financial inclusion efforts. Ethio Telecom highlighted the platform’s benefits in increasing market accessibility, productivity, and job creation—particularly for SMEs—while also promoting digital transformation and sustainable economic growth.
Ethio Telecom noted that Zemen Gebeya will create numerous opportunities for entrepreneurs, farmers, artisans, and businesses. It will be made available to customers via a mini app embedded within the company’s widely used Telebirr Super App.
The company extended an invitation to logistics providers and businesses to partner with Zemen Gebeya in contributing to Ethiopia’s journey toward a thriving digital economy.
