World’s First Orthodox AI Launches in Ethiopia

With “What Would Jesus Say” Feature

Toronto – The first Orthodox AI is launching in Ethiopia, according to news release sent to Borkena on Thursday. 

aiortodox.com – was launched in Ethiopia on September 25. It is a free site and now available to users. 

What it does is, in the words of the developer, it  “unites advanced AI with the depth of Orthodox Christianity to deliver fast, source-linked answers, prayer guidance, and interactive conversations.” 

Andrei Stanica, Founder & CEO, indicated that the AI was initially launched in Romanian. After that it has been launched in the U.S., Russia and Ukraine. 

He shared a personal story about how he ended up developing the AI. He mentioned that he emerged from a coma after a house fire accident. 

“That experience convinced him that faith and technology should work together to support people who need immediate spiritual guidance. He assembled theologians, AI engineers, and designers—**4 Romanian specialists and 7 international collaborators**—to build an AI that is available **24/7** and faithful to Orthodox doctrine, while welcoming all Christians to learn and pray,” reads the news release. 

Ethiopia is the fifth country the religious AI is launching.

According to the news release, the AI can answer inquiries  “on Scripture, feasts, fasting, sacraments, saints, canons, and tradition receive concise responses with **direct citations** to the Bible and the Church Fathers.”  – Among other things. 

It also has a feature to “build prayer habits,” “Talk with an AI Priest” ( with text or voice) and use study mode. 

At the time of this writing, there is no indication if the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has remarked on the AI tool.
