Addis Ababa, December 18, 2025: The U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa brought together over 90 Ethiopian alumni of the U.S. Embassy exchange programs for a conference on “Advancing Shared Leadership” on December 18, 2025, in Addis Ababa.
Attendees represented an Ethiopia-wide network of more than 6,000 alumni of U.S. exchange programs, including the Mandela Washington Fellowship, the Fulbright Program, the International Visitor Leadership Program, the Access English Language Program, and the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program.
Ambassador Ervin J. Massinga opened the conference with remarks recognizing the increasing strength of the alumni association and its regional chapters to share their lessons learned from the United States across Ethiopia. In his opening remarks, he praised the U.S. Exchange Alumni Association and highlighted the impact of the alumni in driving economic development in Addis Ababa and throughout Ethiopia. He stated, “The United States’ most effective investments in Ethiopia are in soft infrastructure — in people. U.S. engagement is not just about signing agreements but about creating platforms that allow businesses to succeed.”
Discussions during the conference showcased how U.S. Embassy alumni are leveraging U.S. innovation and professional networks to build partnerships and grow businesses that create the economic engine of Ethiopia’s development. These exchanges are the building blocks of partnerships between our two countries.
