African countries, especially Eritrea and Somalia, are among the 12 nations affected by a sweeping new travel ban imposed by  U.S. President Donald Trump.

The White House announced that Trump has signed a presidential proclamation that bars citizens of Eritrea, Somalia, and ten other countries from traveling to the United States. The restrictions, which will take effect on June 9, 2025, target several African and Middle Eastern nations as part of what Trump described as a move to protect national security.

Alongside Eritrea and Somalia, the ban also includes Sudan, Afghanistan, Iran, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Libya, Equatorial Guinea, Myanmar, and Yemen. According to the statement, these countries are considered by the administration to be “posing a national security threat.”

“This travel ban is necessary to keep Americans safe from individuals whose identities cannot be properly verified,” Trump said in a video posted on Truth Social, his social media platform. He cited a recent attack in Colorado, allegedly carried out by an Egyptian national, as a trigger for the new restrictions. Notably, Egypt is not on the list of banned countries.

In addition to the full ban, seven other countries—Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela—are now subject to partial travel restrictions, according to the White House.

Trump emphasized that he does not want individuals who enter the U.S. on temporary visas and then overstay. “We must stop the flow of people who come on tourist visas and never leave,” he stated.

The White House clarified that certain exceptions will be made. Iranian refugees facing religious or ethnic persecution, a limited number of Afghan nationals, and athletes participating in major international sporting events may still be eligible for U.S. entry under specific conditions.

  1. As a Somali, I welcome this. Somalis need to be trapped in Somalia, so we finalize solve our problems instead of people having fantasies about escaping to the West. THANK YOU, TRUMP!

    • I agree. I support Somali Republicans who wish to fix their country. It seems Kenyans might not feel the same way though since they say you guys are taking over their government.

Should I advocate for Ogaden and ONLF?

      • I’m not a Republican, but I do support restrictions on immigration from Africa to the West because it doesn’t help Africa either. You have brain drain as well as people thinking about leaving instead of fixing our own countries.

As for Kenya. I don’t really care about Kenya. I mostly only follow up with Ethiopia and the Somali sphere.

  2. Sky is falling! Sky is falling! Sky is falling!!! Did you see the global stock market today? It tanked. It lost 60% of its value in just the first 4 hours and it will mostly continue to slide until it loses 100% of what it is worth. You may ask why? That is because Marco Rubio banned citizens of Eritrea from coming to the USA. Experts from Eritrea are the only ones who can run the global stock market. They are the only ones who can let Mao’s ‘Let a hundred flowers bloom; let a hundred schools of thought contend’ and make the whole world do ‘The Great Leap Forward’ over the Niagara, Blue Nile and Victoria Falls. And don’t forget their song ‘ Uni-Polar, Uni-Polar’ composed by non-other than the infallible and my longtime homie Al-Toweel Isu. They know how to serenade us with that song to the tune of the Father of Soul James Brown’s own, I Feel Good!!! Both my hommies Yemane and Al-Toweel shot me emails to tell me how they are so pissed off by Rubio’s decision that they will order an economic sanction on the USA and its allies. That will make car price go through the roof, grocery, steel/aluminum and petroleum price go up by 10,000%.
