Toronto – Seven members of the same family, including the father, are reportedly killed in a poison.
The mother is said to be in critical conditions and does not seem to know that all family members are dead.
It is the police Commission of the South Ethiopia Region that disclosed the story to the public.
According to Police, the incident occurred on November 15 in East Guraghe Zone Meseka district, Meseret Wogeram locality.
The family member reportedly had supper together around 7 p.m. local time.
Commander Yalew Temesgen, the region’s police commission criminal intelligence directorate, is cited as saying the family members fell sick after eating supper.
Mengistu Haile (50, Mekbne Haile (7) and Teklu Haile (17) were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, police added.
Despite the medical team’s effort to save their lives, Mekdes Haile (14) and Gebre Haile (15) died in hospital the next day on November 16 around 11 PM.
Sisay Haile ( a toddler) died on November 19 around 8 a.m. in the morning and Haile Abera (the father) who was 46 died on the night of November 20. He was found dead in the morning.
Damenesh Denbel, the mother, is reportedly receiving medical help in the ICU unit of the hospital. It is unclear if the hospital is in Meskan district.
Police report indicated that residents from the neighborhood received reports that the family members fell sick after supper and rushed them to hospital.
However, although police suspect that the family was poisoned with food it is not established with a laboratory finding.
Commander Yalew Tesegen is cited as saying that a task force is named to investigate and ten suspected persons are in custody.
The body is reportedly sent for an autopsy investigation. Police anticipate that the result of the autopsy could give a clue.
There had been a recurring ethnic violence in the district over the past few years.
