Ethiopian athletes Sutume Kebede and Tadesse Takele won the Tokyo Marathon in the Women and Men categories respectively

Toronto – Ethiopian athletes on Sunday claimed victory in the men and women categories of this year’s Tokyo Marathon. In the men’s category, the athletes finished 1st and 2nd.
Tadese Takele crossed the finishing line in 2:03:51 hours while his compatriot Deresa Geleta followed him clocking 2:03:23 to claim the second prize in the men’s category. This was Tadesse’s third marathon contest.
It is a personal-best time for Tadese, according to sources. He improved his personal best by only one second. He finished third at the Berlin Marathon in 2023.
In 2021, he competed at the World under 20 3000 meters steeplechase and won a silver medal.
“I feel very good,” World Athletics cited Tadesse as saying.
Kenyan Athlete ,Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich, had to settle for third position in 2:04:00 hours. Mulugeta Asefa Uma, another Ethiopian athlete, finished fifth in 2:05:46.

Woman category
In the Women’s category, Sutume Asefa Kebede had a glorious victory. She finished the distance in 2: 16 : 31 seconds. Winfridah Moraa Moset, Kenyan athlete, finished second crossing the finishing line 20 seconds after Sutume. Winfridah Moraa Moset clocked 2:16:56.
World Athletics reported Sutume Kebede set a Japanese all-comers’ record of 2:15:55 when winning in Tokyo last year.
Hawi Feysa claimed third position clocking 2:17:00 hours.
It was a sunny day in Tokyo with the highest temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and lowest of 8 degrees Celsius, as shared by the event organizers.
