Regional Authorities Cite Deteriorating Conditions and Unfulfilled Commitments, Demanding International Accountability for Future Negotiations

(NAIROBI, Kenya) — The Tigray Communication Affairs Bureau released a statement regarding an unscheduled visit by former Nigerian President and African Union High Representative Olusegun Obasanjo to Mekelle. According to regional authorities, Tigray’s leadership interrupted scheduled commitments to meet with the envoy following his arrival.
The Debretsion-led Tigray administration holds no official recognition from the federal government and the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia. This political faction previously removed the Tadesse Worede-led Interim Regional Administration—which was established under the terms of the Pretoria Agreement—claiming that its mandate had expired while rejecting an extension granted by federal authorities.
During the meeting, regional officials expressed strong dissatisfaction over the lack of progress and monitoring following discussions held in June 2026. They emphasized that security and economic conditions on the ground have continued to deteriorate.
The Tigray regional leadership outlined five mandatory prerequisites that must be satisfied before engaging in formal dialogue with the federal government:
- Lifting Economic Blockades: Reopening trade routes and restoring unrestricted economic activity.
- Ending Military Tensions: Ceasing military sieges and de-escalating military standoffs across regional borders.
- Territorial Normalization: Restoring the political and administrative control of Tigray’s sovereign territory.
- Return of Displaced Persons: Guaranteeing the safe and dignified return of internally displaced populations to their communities.
- Legal Status of TPLF: Fully restoring the political and legal recognition of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
Regional authorities indicated that negotiations over the past four years have yielded unfulfilled commitments. The statement affirmed that Tigray holds no political interest in repeating open-ended or hollow processes.
While Obasanjo pledged to present Tigray’s concerns to federal officials in Addis Ababa and return within two weeks, the regional government asserted that the ruling Prosperity Party has shown no genuine effort to address these core grievances.
According to a press release by the regional communication affairs bureau, the Tigray administration reiterated its willingness to enter a transparent, time-bound peace dialogue, provided it is backed by international partners capable of ensuring compliance and accountability.

There is a misprint in this article. I talked to my longtime homeboy Debre this afternoon and had asked him about what transpired during the meeting. He told me he had given six preconditions to Obasanjo. I asked him what those six preconditions are. He could not do that because he needed permission from his bosom daddy Al-Toweel Isu. He the put me on hold to call his slave master and told me what those six preconditions were. The first one is to hand over the GERD dam to him pronto so he can sell it to his bank roller in Al-Qahirah. The 2nd one is for the Afar people to evacuate the entire Afar region and move them to Mauritania so he can link Mek’ele to Assab. The 3rd one is transfer all the assets and headquarters of all banks to Mek’ele. The 4th one is disarm the entire ENDF and hand over all the arsenal including the air force to the armed wing of the TPLF. The 5th and 6th ones are just piece of cake. They involve the eradication of the word ‘Ethiopia’ from existence. Done!!!!!
As an ordinary Ethiopian citizen I thank you Mr. Obasanjo for your tireless efforts to stop the bloodshed among Ethiopians. I know that you and your colleagues have successfully solved the Nigerian civil war back in 70s. Nigeria is one country today. It is in the same vein that you are trying your utmost to solve our problem.
But when you come to the TPLF leaders they are frustrated people who have been disgracefully chased out of government power and again beaten in the ensuing war. Their main obsession is vendetta against the government that replaced them. They do not understand the importance of peace negotiation. For peace to come in Tigray, they need to be replaced by younger more visionary, energetic and educated new leadership. Until such a time ,the problem will remain the same and Tigray will remain volatile, and submissive to the whims of neighboring countries far and near to intrude Ethiopian peace and stability. That means, until then your attempts at negotiation between the two parties will remain repeating open-ended or hollow processes ( as these pigheaded, narrow minded put in their news briefs)
Did anyone else notice what I saw in this photo? Did you see Debre’s with a beer belly gutting out? I tell you his dinner table have not missed the best cut fillet mignon, rib eye, short and prime rib a single day accompanied with butter drenched chicken stew. How about the average citizen in that region, you may ask? Who cares if they walk around with gaunt faces due to malnourishment and a nightmarish life worrying about the possibility of another deadly and destructive war? Who cares? Not Debre or those at Arat Kilo including those war lords roaming the wildernesses of the Amhara and Oromia regions. Disgusting lard tubs!!!
