The first international conference “Trusted Artificial Intelligence: Russia-Africa 2025” concluded in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event served as a platform for strengthening scientific and technical cooperation between Russia and African countries in the development and implementation of reliable and ethical artificial intelligence technologies.
The forum was organized by leading universities and research institutes from Russia and Ethiopia, including the AIRI Institute, the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics (MTUCI), Addis Ababa University, and the Ethiopian Institute of Artificial Intelligence. The conference was supported by “Rossotrudnichestvo” and the Russian House in Addis Ababa.
The conference aims to bring together experts, scientists, business representatives, and government officials to jointly find solutions to global challenges using trusted AI technologies.
The conference explored key areas of trusted artificial intelligence application that are driving contemporary global trends. Researchers presented an overview of innovative healthcare solutions, including the use of AI in stroke rehabilitation. Significant attention was paid to the role of technology in improving the efficiency and transparency of public administration and justice. In sessions on finance and inclusive growth, experts discussed how artificial intelligence can help bridge the financing gap for small and medium-sized businesses and manage risks in critical areas. The agro-industrial complex became the topic of discussion for the Agriculture 4.0 developments aimed at ensuring food security. Participants also discussed the potential of predictive analytics for optimizing industrial processes, the role of AI in improving climate resilience, and its integration into intelligent transport systems within the Smart City concept.
Key speakers included representatives from leading Russian research centers, including AIRI, MTUCI, and ISP RAS, as well as international tech companies such as Amazon. Ethiopia’s participation in the event included leading professors and researchers from Addis Ababa University, the Ethiopian Institute of Artificial Intelligence, and other universities.
“The global future is built on trusted artificial intelligence. Russia is a key participant in this process. We are convinced that the technological sovereignty of the BRICS countries must be based on ethical and safe solutions developed in cooperation with each other, because science is a global collaboration of professionals. The conference clearly demonstrates the shared interest of Russia and Africa in technologies that are not only effective but also safe, transparent, and serve the benefit of humanity,” noted Oleg Rogov, PhD, Associate Professor, and Head of the AIRI-MTUCI Safe AI Laboratory.
“The conference demonstrates the shared interest of Russia and Africa in developing reliable and secure artificial intelligence technologies. MTUCI, as a leading research center in information technology, is actively involved in building this partnership. The unification of the scientific potential of Russia and Africa, our scientific schools and educational resources, creates a solid foundation for the development and implementation of innovative solutions. We are ready for joint research, educational projects, and the exchange of experience that will serve the sustainable development of our nations,” noted Sergey Erokhin, Rector of MTUCI.
