Dividing opponents to elongate Abiy Ahmed Ali’s, a war criminal, rule

By Taye Gobeze

Now it is official that Abiy Ahmed Ali has started the two-year Tigray war by orchestrating the Northern Command to be attacked. He himself told many Oromia region PP members, according to Taye Dendea, a senior (former) Prosperity Party member who was imprisoned a few days ago due to his conflict with the power-thirsty bloodsucker prime minister. As they say, “ማን ያውራ የነበረ ማን ያርዳ የቀበረ” – which means “Whom can share a story? One who was there; who can tell the death of someone? One who is buried.” The Tigray war claimed 1 million lives. Taye Dendea, who is bold and truthful to himself, told what he heard from the mouth of the genocider himself. He has orchestrated killings and conflicts in the Oromia region, war in Tigray, war in the Amhara region, several small-scale conflicts between several other regions, and now he is warmongering with neighboring countries. Specifically, as he plans to wage war with the Eritrean regime just for the sake of buying time for his rule in the name of a sea port and sea access, he is planning to weaken and wear out the Northerners with nonstop, continuous war. Since the war will take place in the Afar region, in Tigray, and probably in parts of the Amhara region. Most importantly, Abiy has been working day and night to divide people inside and outside the country since he came to power. He is still successful in doing it.  But he is not alone. He has good helpers.  The number one beneficiary from all the divisions is King Abiy Ahmed Ali and his perceived gangs.

Amhara Fano People’s Force (APFP)  versus Amhara Fano National Force (AFNF)

Abiy has faced fierce resistance to his evil rule in the Amhara region. The Fano movement, which covers most of the Amhara region, has gained popularity and support from all walks of life, including farmers and urban dwellers in the country, as well as those in the diaspora. But since the establishment of the Amhara Fano People’s Force (APFP) (የአማራ ፋኖ ህዝባዊ ድርጅት – አፋህድ) by Eskinder Nega, that momentum slowed down due to division among the Fano forces on the ground and the supporters both inside the country and abroad in the diaspora. Eskinder, willingly or unwillingly,  is helping Abiy Ahmed to elongate his rule. This is a painful statement to those who admire and love Eskinder. For them, Eskinder is a symbol of true resistance and true Ethiopian patriotism. To integrate him and even to equate him with the narcissist Abiy Ahmed is abomination. But facts are bitter. What is going on right now on the ground in the Amhara region is division among the Fano forces. Even in some places they are fighting each other.

Eskinder’s fans put the blame squarely on the Gojam Fano forces and their leader, Zemene. They do not want to think that it was Eskinder who traveled from the USA to join the Fano resistance movement. They do not want to recognize that Zemene was engaged in resisting those forces who envisioned humiliating the Amhara region’s people long before Eskinder put his foot there. They do not want to acknowledge a new generation that was born and raised during the TPLF-ብአዴን rule in the region. This young generation learned politics and dialogue under this system. Some even were in the hierarchy of that system (ልዮ ሀይል ፣ ፋኖ ፣ የአማራ ፖሊስ ፣ ቀበሌ ፡ ወረዳ ፡ ዞን ፡ ብአዴን አባል).   They have been having discourse for a long time in schools, universities, hotels, and so on for years. They have studied the past 50 years of the history of the country. They have understood how the Amhara people have failed significantly since the time of the Derg regime. They have dissected the motives and strategies of those forces that have oppressed the people in the region using various ideologies and slogans. The new generation is a new breed. Those of us who grew up in other systems do not understand them well. Especially, the diaspora who fled the country during the Derg and the TPLF regimes have failed to gain an understanding of this new breed, which has designed a new way to help the people in the region. Instead of going deeper, discerning things, and changing tactics and strategies, a good portion of the diaspora still wants to do things the old way—በድሮ በሬ ካላረስን እያሉ ነው!

Eskinder represents the generation that aligns itself with Ethiopianist politics. Most of the diaspora are in this category. They used to support Abiy at the start of his regime since he deceived them by singing the song they wanted to hear: Ethiopia, Ethiopia, Ethiopia. When Abiy disappointed them, they needed another person who could represent and topple Abiy and his gangs. Who could do that job other than the Great Eskinder, in their minds? Eskinder, with a great stature, known for resisting the TPLF and the PP-led governments, became the right person for them. Many pledged support in various ways. They invested in it. Now they are again disappointed that Eskinder has a challenger by the name of Gojam Fano, represented by Zemene and other collaborators who recently founded የአማራ ፋኖ ብሔራዊ ኃይል – Amhara Fano National Force (AFNF). AFNF is gaining momentum, and it has become a more formidable force. However, the division between APFP and AFNF is prolonging the suffering of the people in the region. The division only helps Abiy and his regime. The fact that a person claiming to fight for the people becomes a symbol of division is something questionable.

Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) versus  Tigray Democratic Solidarity (ስምሪት)

Another agent of division who is helping Abiy is no other than Getachew Reda, the former head of the Tigray Interim Regional Administration (TIRA) and current Minister Advisor to the Prime Minister on the Horn of Africa, has formed a new party called Tigray Democratic Solidarity (ስምሪት).  He was a central command member of TPLF. Now he is speaking fiercely against his former party, TPLF and TPLFites. Everyone is shocked seeing him speaking openly and ridiculing all his friends. He is not alone. General Tsadikan and a few other military commanders are with him. Professor Kindaya and some of the scholars are also standing with him.  It is heard that, sponsored by Abiy Ahmed,  some elements of Tigray Defense Forces (TDF) led by one Military general are reorganizing in Afar region to fight the remnants of TDF and TPLF in Tigray. As it is also reported that the main TPLFites and most TDF have started aligning with Eritrean forces to fight back Abiy and his allies. As Abiy and his military generals are drumming war with Eritrea for more than a year in the pretext of getting  access to sea and Sea port. It means at any given time we can see active conflict in Tigray between the Tigra forces. In addition, we can also see Eritreans at war with Abiy and his ‘Orommuma’ forces.

Stopping Abiy’s divide and rule strategy

Abiy always thrives on division. We do not need special knowledge to understand this; it is not rocketing science. To divide and attack people, you just need a wicked soul—perhaps filled with a demonic spirit, too. In the years before the Tigray war, he managed to manipulate the divide between Amhara and Tigray elites. He also exploited the division between the Eritrean leaders and TPLFites for his benefit. He took the Nobel Peace Prize without really making peace between the Eritrean and Tigray neighbors. He showed a photograph with the leaders as if he was trying to make peace between the two. Behind closed doors, he was taking advantage, and when the war broke out in Tigray, he managed to bring Eritrean forces and Amhara forces together to dismantle the TPLFites. Unless the TPLFites have a better strategy, like how the Greeks conquered the city of Troy, a powerful city on the western coast of Anatolia, by sending their Trojan horse and embedding it within the Abiy Ahmed regime and attacking at the right place and at the right time, the division will not help the Tigray people. In the same way, unless the APFP and AFNF come to a unity understanding with each other, the divider and the bloodiest person who recently said in the open media, “I am living my dream life,” will triumph in many ways for the demise of the people in the Amhara and Tigray regions. Actually, it is the same in the Oromia region; it is only that he has managed to subdue those forces opposing him in many ways when he betrayed the #NoMore movement and released political giants in the region like Jawar Mohammed and Bekele Gerba. Each region needs true representation with elected representatives to build a nation together, not just a power maniac who has the wrong priorities in life at the top of the country.
