Toronto – In his first interview since he joined Fano forces a few weeks ago, General Tefera Mamo had his first interview with ABC Amhara T.V.
He spoke highly of the composition of the Fano forces and their battle experience. He said they are able to handle an operation with a minimal number of combatants. His evaluation of the fano fighters is after taking part in six battle fronts since he joined them.
He also talked about how prominent Shoa Fano Commander, Assegid Mekonnen, ended up in the hands of government forces. Earlier this week the government made claims that Assegid surrendered and that he was flown to the capital Addis Ababa. The government apparently made him appear on Fann Television (state-owned) and state that “he surrendered.”
Tefera says that story is not true. Assegid was in fact captured as he was transitioning to join his forces in the Merabete area via Kombolcha. He said the government thought it would benefit by making the story appear like Assegid surrendered.
