Toronto – Somaliland, Somalia’s breakaway region in the North that has been existing as a de facto sovereign state for over 33 years now, is responding to the proliferation of firearms in Somalia.
A Press Release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation was released on Tuesday.
It came after local militia forces in central Somalia intercepted two trucks of firearms, that are said to originate from Ethiopia, as it was heading to Mogadishu escorted by Somalia National Intelligence Agency officers.
It was reported on Tuesday that at least 10 of the secret agents, including a senior officer, were killed during a shootout with the militia in Galmudug State.
Somaliland is concerned that Al-Shabab has seized a sizable number of firearms from government forces.

“Somaliland Government Deeply Concerned Over Arms Proliferation in Somalia
Jul 16, 2024
Hargeisa, Somaliland – July 16th, 2024: The Government of the Republic of Somaliland expresses grave concern over the alarming escalation of arms proliferation in Somalia, as evidenced by recent events. In the past three months, Al Shabab has successfully seized substantial quantities of weaponry from government forces in central Somalia. Moreover, the recent incident in Aabud Waq, where civilians and clan militias captured a large cache of weapons and ammunition from the Mogadishu government, further highlights the critical security situation.
These developments serve as a serious reminder of the Somaliland government’s and other frontline states’ longstanding concerns regarding the lifting of the arms embargo on Somalia. Despite our fervent warnings, the embargo was lifted in December 2023. The subsequent proliferation of these captured arms, now widely documented on social media, raises serious questions about the wisdom and timing of this decision.
Given the Mogadishu government’s apparent inability to secure its arms stockpiles, and the potential catastrophic consequences of this situation, the Somaliland government calls upon the United Nations and the International Community to urgently re-evaluate their decision to lift the arms embargo.
We urge the international community to take immediate steps to address this crisis and prevent further destabilization of the region.”

Silence! I’m singing from the top of my lung the old time Somali spiritual!
Harimade Ana Haban; Ana Haban; Galada Same Nagaadhsi!!!
Harimade Ana Haban; Ana Haban; Galada Same Nagaadhsi!!!
Harimade Ana Haban; Ana Haban; Galada Same Nagaadhsi!!!
Harimade Ana Haban; Ana Haban; Galada Same Nagaadhsi!!!
That is followed by that Ella and Whitney clone of Somaliland Maryan Mursal taking all of us home with her rendition of Somaliland. I just can’t help singing it. I can’t get it out of my head!!! Don’t blame me. Al-Waziir Mohammed Farah Mohammed pushed the play button and left. Harimade Ana Haban; Ana Haban; Galada Same Nagaadhsi!!!…Help!!!
Af-Mishaar, if you don’t like it you can always jump in a lake and never even think about coming up!!!!
Obbo Ittu
Is that all you can say about Abiy’s blantant. war mongering and beating war drums with neighbors and trying to inflame even further of Somalia’s internal conflict? Or this little emotional outburst for the successes and strides made by the Oromumma mantra and its ingenious and destructive political platform and civil war in Ethiopia and conflic in the whole region? Because now it is beyond shadow of doubt that dilettante Abiy sending more deadly weapons and his militia across the border to inflame situation even further and you didn’t say a word about it and how come? FYI, the Somali relic singer Maryan Mursal Botaan to the equivalent and cohorts of Ethiopian singer Hirut Beke is not from the clannish group of the so-called Somalil land of the nothern region of Somalia and she opposes to the secessionist any idea and never made a song for it. She is from the central regions of Somalia and she is unflinching unionist and pacifist. I happen to met and talk to her in Bole airport 5 years ago when she was from europe traveling to Mogadishu via Addis. Lastly , The Somali traditional war dance and play of the WilWILA (there are close versions played by Oromos see singer like Khadija Hajii songs , who also plays fantastic shegoye ሼጎዬ songs) and others like Afar people . But still I don’t get its relevance here except druming up for wars and violence. The WILWILA dance is something similar to amharic versions of Shilela or ሺሌላ songs and lyrics. But what most amusing is you choose again and put an incorrect Somali word in the mix. For example there is no where the word of GAALA is found in the WILWILA dance. With all due redpect, Let me correct little bit bro. It starts with something like
HELEE LEE YOOY HELEE LEEYOOY
HARI MAANTEE HANA HAABAN
HANA HAABAN, HANA HAABAN
NIMAAN HELAA MA HAMBAYNA
….
That is the basic theme of the starting point and repeation of the dance. The good or bad thing about the WILWILHA is anyone can change the words and can make fiill ins and ups of own with different words in the rest of the song dance that can range from threats of war to celebratory mood of weddings and other sociall festivies. I believe the word that you choose and put there is your own thing and fill ups for some reasons and not apropiate one but I wonder why.
To My Fellow Horn of Africans,
You have been told by our modern day prophet Af-Mishaar that a country used to be called Ethiopia is no more and has been replaced by a new beautiful country called Habeshamalia so it will sound just like Somalia. Those two groups of people who worked together like hand gloves to create the now gone Ethiopia, Oromos and Amharas, are now gone after being eliminated to the last man by the almighty forces of Piccolo Roma, Somalia, Al-Qahirah and Ankara. So I am ordering all of you not to ever mention the word Ethiopia. If you don’t, Af-Mishaar will come after you in person to beat the tar out of every one of you. Now Af-Mishaar will be able to take all the districts that were forcibly taken from Somalia by Oromos in 2004. Dadar, Dhir Dabie(Dire Dawa, Biyo Karaba, Haramaya, Mulu. Mieso, Hirna, Chiro, Badesaa, Galamso, Asabot, Kora, Harba and Awash will now be reinstated back to Somalia.
