The failed state leadership of Villa Somalia’s President is marked by corruption, nepotism, and unconstitutional actions. He hides behind the façade of so-called nationalism, pretending to act in the national interest while pursuing personal gain. Projects such as the E-Visa system, the defense of government land in Mogadishu, and the “one person, one vote” initiative are not genuine reforms, but rather schemes to enrich himself and consolidate power.

Since 1993, Somalia has suffered from weak and unstable governance, but this President stands out as one of the worst, prioritizing wealth accumulation over the well-being of the nation. Instead of protecting the country and its people, he has been engaged in the reckless selling of public land and misappropriation of national funds. Somalia desperately needs leadership that truly serves the people and safeguards national resources, not one that exploits them for personal fortune.

The Failed State of Villa Somalia: A Presidency Built on Corruption and False Nationalism

Introduction

Somalia has endured decades of instability, conflict, and weak governance since the collapse of the central state in 1991. In this fragile environment, every president has carried the enormous responsibility of rebuilding national institutions and restoring public trust. However, the current leadership at Villa Somalia has done the opposite, deepening corruption, exploiting nationalism for personal gain, and undermining constitutional order.

False Nationalism as a Political Cover

The President of Villa Somalia often presents himself as a defender of Somalia’s national interest, portraying policies such as the E-Visa system, the protection of government land in Mogadishu, and the “one person, one vote” project as steps toward modernization and sovereignty. In reality, these initiatives serve as tools to accumulate wealth and power. Rather than advancing the state, they are carefully designed to project an image of reform while masking corruption and mismanagement.

Corruption, Nepotism, and Unconstitutional Rule

The administration has become synonymous with nepotism, where political appointments and state resources are distributed based on clan loyalty and personal relationships rather than merit. Public funds and government land are being sold or misused, draining Somalia’s already fragile institutions. Unconstitutional decision-making has become normalized, eroding the principles of accountability and rule of law.

The Worst Presidency Since 1993

From 1993 to 2025, Somalia has experienced a cycle of failed governance, but this presidency will be remembered as one of the worst. Instead of laying the groundwork for peace, stability, and progress, Villa Somalia has prioritized personal enrichment. The country continues to suffer from insecurity, poor governance, and lack of essential services while its leader consolidates wealth and power at the expense of the nation and the administration consolidates only in Mogdhisho, the capital city area  only.

Exploiting National Projects for Personal Gain

  • E-Visa Program: Marketed as a step toward modernization, but largely managed as a revenue stream lacking transparency.
  • Government Land in Mogadishu: Rather than protecting state property, land has been treated as a commodity for sale or political bargaining.
  • One Person, One Vote Project: A symbolic campaign that has not been realized in practice, yet used to attract international funding and legitimacy while delivering nothing meaningful to citizens.

A Nation in Need of True Leadership

Somalia deserves leaders who place the interests of the people above personal wealth. The looting of public resources, sale of national land, and manipulation of reform projects have left the country in a perpetual state of dependency and disillusionment. To move forward, Somalia requires leadership that:

  1. Strengthens institutions and the rule of law.
  2. Ends corruption and nepotism through real accountability mechanisms.
  3. Restores the trust of citizens by delivering services, security, and economic opportunities.
  4. Respects the constitution and upholds the sovereignty of the Somali people.

Conclusion

The presidency at Villa Somalia has proven itself to be a failed experiment in governance, defined by corruption, greed, and deception. By hiding behind the rhetoric of nationalism while looting the country’s wealth, this leadership has betrayed the very people it claims to serve. Somalia is not short of potential, it is short of genuine leadership. Unless there is a fundamental shift in governance, the country will remain trapped in the cycle of exploitation and instability.
