Saudi Security Forces Arrest Suspects Over Fatal Inter-Communal Clash Involving Ethiopian Nationals in Desert Areas

Ethiopian Embassy Confirms Custody of Primary Suspect and Accomplices Following Social Media Footage of Violence

By Staff Writer

(Nairobi, Kenya) — The Ethiopian Embassy in Riyadh confirmed that Saudi security forces have taken into custody the primary suspect and five accomplices in connection with a fatal inter-communal clash among Ethiopian nationals near the Kingdom’s border and desert areas.

The arrests follow joint surveillance operations coordinated by Saudi security agencies, the embassy, and members of the Ethiopian diaspora community, following the circulation of graphic footage documenting the killings on social media platforms.

Beyond those directly involved in the violence, Saudi authorities have detained over 100 individuals suspected of filming, disseminating, and amplifying footage of the incident online. Their cases have been transferred to investigative authorities for legal processing.

In an official statement, the Ethiopian Embassy described the violent acts as offensive and contrary to national culture and values. Diplomatic officials expressed gratitude to community members who provided information aiding the investigation and urged citizens in the Kingdom to adhere strictly to host nation laws, verify information before sharing it online, and report relevant criminal details to diplomatic representatives.
