Nairobi, Kenya – In a statement released today, the Salsay Weyane Tigray Party accused the TPLF leadership of creating a worsening crisis in the Tigray region through what it described as selfish political decisions and the use of force. The party said Tigray is facing pressure from both internal and external actors, claiming that the region has lost the ability to determine its own future and is increasingly vulnerable to outside influence.
The statement said that despite public opposition to what it called the TPLF’s strict “jungle law” — which the party claims was introduced without public support — the group continues to enforce it through coercive measures. It added that a recent ceremony for newly recruited fighters demonstrated, in its view, the leadership’s continued reliance on force to advance its political agenda.
Salsay Weyane further claimed that communities in various parts of Tigray are resisting attempts to force them into military service. The party said that instead of engaging in dialogue with those raising concerns, the TPLF leadership has labeled critics as individuals seeking “chaos and unrest” in order to justify what it described as harmful policies.
The party warned that the TPLF’s actions are increasing risks for civilians, deepening the internal crisis in Tigray, and could contribute to further instability and destruction in the region.
The statement also described Tigray as being in a vulnerable condition. It said that while the region requires extensive support to recover from the destruction caused by the war, facilitate the return of displaced people, and address unresolved territorial issues, the TPLF’s actions have created opportunities for external actors to exploit the situation for their own interests.
Salsay Weyane said it believes the root cause of the current challenges is the absence of a strong national government that protects the interests and lives of all Tigrayans. The party therefore called for an urgent and inclusive national dialogue to begin a process aimed at addressing the crisis and preventing further harm to the people of Tigray.

I called a longtime friend to find out what ‘Salsay Weyane’ means and he told me that it means the ‘Third Weyane’ associated with a rebellion in that region with the first one in the 1940’s and the 2nd one in 1975. Both the 1st and 2nd ones had opted for using violent means of struggle. If this group is on the same wave length, then what makes Debre and his goons? ‘Weyane Two-and-a-Half’? It gives me an impression that ethnic groups like this have given up or they do not wish/want to come into a united party with other parties/groups. It really saddens me. Such groups exist not only in Tigray but also in Amhara, Oromo and all other ethnic groups. The longer such unwillingness goes on the farther will be the day when those noble people of the old country will be able to see life in liberty for the pursuit of happiness. So depressing.
