Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Safaricom Ethiopia has announced a donation of 10 desktop computers, 2 Wi-Fi routers, and 6 months of free internet to Hayik Secondary School in Hayik Town, South Wollo Zone of the Amhara region. The total value of the contribution is 550,000 Ethiopian Birr.

Tilahun Birhanu, Safaricom Ethiopia‘s Head of External Affairs for the Northeast, Northwest, and Afar regions, emphasized the company’s commitment to social development and digital inclusion. “We are contributing our share to the journey of digitizing education across Ethiopia, and we believe today’s support will help build digital skills for the next generation,” he stated.

Seyid Ahmed, Chief Administrator of Tehuledere Woreda, where Hayik town is located, accepted the donation. He highlighted the significance of the contribution, saying, “As 12th-grade students will be taking their exit exams on computers, this support underscores its importance.”

Safaricom Ethiopia officially launched its commercial operations in the country in October 2022, marking a major milestone as the first private telecom operator in Ethiopia’s history, with a focus on expanding digital access and fostering economic growth.
