Toronto – The Central Bank of the Russian Federation, also known as Bank of Russia, this week included Ethiopian birr in the list of exchanged currencies.
On Saturday, 0.57 Russian ruble exchanged to 1 Ethiopian Birr. Russia’s Bank reported in June this year that Ruble continues to make gains against U.S. dollars.
Ethiopia and Russia are members of BRICS and have been working to strengthen relations in a range of areas including defense and nuclear energy.
The Ethiopian Birr lost over 100 percent of its value after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration introduced macro-economic reform in July 2024 one of which was the introduction of a market-based currency regime. There were speculations that the changes were imposed from the IMF as conditions to grant ECF estimated to be over $10 billion.
Last year this time, one U.S. dollar was exchanged at 57 Ethiopian Birr. Today, it is over 134 Ethiopian birr both in private and state owned banks.

All I can say is birds of a feather flock together. Every Birr exchanged at the mass murderer’s central bank will have the blood of children, expecting mothers, the elderly and bed-ridden Ukrainian citizens being butchered by the goon in Moscow.
I think it is time for the cooks at Arat Kilo to bring back Mengistu. He will show them a trick or two on how to gobble up more than 500,000 citizens at one sitting, just in one season and say ‘I ain’t kill nobody. They just died by themselves while in prison.’
