Nairobi — The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) reportedly carried out new attacks on six villages near the town of Tine in North Darfur State, resulting in civilian deaths, injuries, and the displacement of thousands of people into neighboring Chad.

The attacks came shortly after the Joint Force, a coalition of armed groups fighting alongside the Sudanese army, made significant military advances against the RSF.

The Joint Force recently took control of the Abu Qamra area in North Darfur and areas around Kulbus in West Darfur following intense fighting with RSF forces.

Ahmed Ibrahim, a resident who arrived in Tine, told Sudan Tribune that a large group of RSF fighters launched what he described as revenge attacks last Wednesday.

He said the fighters targeted six villages along the road linking Ambara and Tine.

Ibrahim reported that the attacks resulted in numerous unconfirmed deaths, the burning of markets and homes, the destruction of water wells, and the looting of livestock.

The destruction created severe shortages of water and food, forcing many residents to walk into Chad in search of safety.

He identified the affected villages as Qarboura, Oruwa, Um Marahik, Kourbia, Abu Leiha, and Ana Baji.

The areas are predominantly inhabited by the Zaghawa community.

In 2024, the RSF reportedly burned more than 20 villages in the Kutum, Ambara, and Karnoi areas.

These incidents involved serious violations, including allegations of ethnically motivated killings and the mass detention of civilians.

The RSF has claimed that residents in these areas support the Joint Force.
