Toronto – A drone strike in North Gojam, Mecha, reportedly killed a farmer and wounded two other women on Sunday. According to multiple Ethiopian news sources with links to the region, the drone strike was as close to Bahir Dar.
The Ethiopian government has not remarked about it. In his latest interview, Defense Chief of Staff FM Berhanu Jula denied that his forces do not use drone strikes that often.
The fighting between Fano forces and government forces is reportedly intensified in many parts of the region following the latest declaration of “final military operation” with the deployment of additional 40,000 forces.
According to sources, there were as many as 30 fighting in the Gojjam area at the same time. The Fano forces imposed road closure as part of a military strategy to respond to government campaigns.
Fano forces are claiming significant military gains from the latest engagement, and they are vowing that the government operation will fail, as was the case before.
In what is said to be full of contradictions in the latest interview, the Defense Chief of staff claimed that the “campaign will be finalized this year.” And then he went on to say, in the same interview, “we will continue to fight even if it takes years.”

This is a lie. I had talked to a teacher relative in the Felote Selam this morning. They told me except for a few sporadic gunfire on the wooded area outside the town, it has been quiet. I was asking myself anyway on how the government forces could be that far inside Gojjam when Fano leaders telling us they have liberated the entire region. Now they started talking about drone attacks after hearing the field marshal told Sesay Agena that his army is not using drones at random. They want to discredit that claim. They have been lying about how Fano liberating the entire Amhara region. Liars!
