The Somali Region has long been a battleground of political exploitation and disenfranchisement. Under the former EPRDF regime, the people of this region were treated with blatant disregard, herded into camps as if they were livestock. These camps, with guards placed at the gates, were manned by handpicked agents loyal to the regime. These agents, much like guard dogs, ensured that the EPRDF could control and exploit the population with impunity, with no care for the land or its people. The region’s fate was sealed not by its own people but by those who profited from its subjugation.
Fast forward to today, and one would think that such oppressive tactics had become a relic of the past. However, the Prosperity Party (PP), the current ruling party, seems intent on keeping this legacy alive. What EPRDF once did to our people—imprisoning them under the guise of protection and development—PP has now replicated, only this time, they have handed control to a small group of NGOs imported from abroad. These foreign agents now operate with the same impunity, controlling the narrative and keeping the people silenced, much like before. The watchdogs still sit at the gates, ready to pounce on any dissenting voice, ensuring that no one dares to question the authority that oppresses them.
This cycle of exploitation cannot continue. The people of this region are not blind to what is happening. They have lost hope in the Prosperity Party, and PP must realize that the people have reached the end of their patience. The question is, what is PP waiting for? Are they waiting for the people, driven by frustration, to take desperate measures? It is no secret that the peace and stability of this region largely depend on the goodwill of its people, yet how long can they be expected to safeguard a peace that serves only the interests of their oppressors?
The absence of a legitimate, representative government that truly reflects the will of the people is glaring. The Somali Region has been denied the right to choose its destiny. Instead, it has been subjected to a regime that prioritizes control over progress, exploitation over empowerment. And for how much longer can the people endure this?
The frustration bubbling beneath the surface is palpable. With no government to represent them, no leadership to advocate for their needs, and no end in sight to the oppressive policies, the people of the Somali Region are fast approaching a breaking point. The political mismanagement of the region, coupled with the Prosperity Party’s continuation of EPRDF’s failed tactics, has created an environment of hopelessness and resentment.
In a region that has long been known for its resilience, the people’s patience is wearing thin. How much longer will the people tolerate the continued oppression, exploitation, and political failure that has become their daily reality? The Prosperity Party would do well to take heed. The winds of change are stirring, and the people of the Somali Region will not be silenced forever.
This is not just a plea for justice; it is a warning. The people of this region deserve a government that serves them, that listens to their concerns, and that reflects their aspirations. The time for political manipulation and exploitation has long passed. It is time for true representation, for leadership that empowers rather than oppresses.
The future of the Somali Region lies in the hands of its people, and they are ready for change.
