Toronto – The Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party (EPRP), one of Ethiopia’s earliest opposition parties, appears to be making a strong comeback in Ethiopian politics. For decades, the party was unable to operate within Ethiopia due to government policies.
Over the past six years, however, the EPRP has resumed its operations in the country. It seems to be fulfilling the role of an opposition party by challenging government policies it deems detrimental to the nation’s interests and resisting oppression. This has come at a cost. Professor Zenabu, the party’s leader, was imprisoned for several months after attempting to organize, alongside other politicians, an anti-war rally in Addis Ababa. More recently, Yishaq Wolday, another prominent leader of the party, was arrested.
Earlier this week, the EPRP held a central committee meeting. The government denied the party permission to convene in a hotel, forcing the meeting to take place in the party’s own office.
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the appointment of Mistre Selassie Tamerat as the party’s new secretary. This marks a significant development for the EPRP and in the country. Mistre Selassie, a young and articulate leader with a background in journalism, previously worked for Asham Media. She left her journalistic career after concluding that the conditions in the country had become too perilous for journalism.
In a nation where political participation has often been likened to “touching an electric current” due to a history of violence and the targeted killings of politicians, Mistre Selassie believes that avoiding politics is not the solution.

News of our women taking charge of a political party is like sweet music to my ears. I hope such steps will continue until our women take full control of every political party and up to grabbing the mantle of running the country for the next at least 100 years. I say this to you faceless misogynists. Don’t even think about badmouthing this over qualified daughter/sister of ours.
I also hope that our dear over qualified editors of this website would come up with a software that will accompany such very important and historic interviews and speeches with English subtitles so all us will understand everything what was said. That would be a great service to your loyal audience and the entire region we all hail from.
Meanwhile, I urge our daughter/sister to do everything she can to get the name of her party changed. The phrase ‘People’s Revolutionary’ was coined up by deacons/darasaas of Marx, Lenin an Mao, a twisted demonic ideology that has sent that gem of the colored into a tailspin of unprecedented bloodshed and destruction. That should be way up on your agenda. You should work hard day and night to create a strong opposition party by uniting with other parties as soon as possible. The opposition is just too fragmented that indirectly allowed despots to come and go riding on the backs of those noble people since the unjustified overthrow the late Emperor in 1974.
I wish you continued success in your future endeavor.
Dear Editors,
