Toronto – Tigray Region Bureau of Peace and Security on Saturday released a statement in response to Defense Force allegation that Brigadier General Megbe Haile, who is said to be one of the most radical TPLF military generals, “encouraged” and “coordinated” Fano forces latest operation across the Amhara region of Ethiopia. He was also accused of involvement in illegal gold trade via Eritrea.
The defense force also painted Gen. Megbe was a ruthless man who sacrificed thousands of youth in a war he attempted offensive in “Western Tigray” twice.
The Bureau tends to see the latest “breaking news” coverage from the Defense Force as continuity of propaganda against the “people of Tigray.”
It said “at different times there has been hate propaganda against the people of Tigray, its institutions and leaders through New era communication platforms.”
Our army and army leaders have been targeted with “fabricated crime” that does not exist on ground in reality, it added. It seems to see the Defense force accusation against General Megbe as “hate propaganda against Tigray”.
The Tigray region security used the Amharic idiom ” ላም ባልዋለበት ኩበት ለቀማ” ( it could translate to “collecting dried dung where there was no cow” )
It also described the defense force’s characterization of General Megebe as irresponsible and one that does not help promote peace and unity.
Furthermore, it defended General Megbe, and “his comrades”, as committed to their work under the Pretoria Agreement, with strict discipline. It denied that Megebe was not involved in any activity against the Pretoria agreement.
General Megebe is one of the three military generals who is allegedly involved in a ‘coup’ against the Interim Tigray Administration and is believed to be, for Getache Reda led faction of TPLF, against Pretoria agreement.
In addition to authorities from Tigray Peace and Security office, Fano force, particularly Zemene Kassie who is the leader of Gojjam Fano, denies that the Fano movement received no material or other forms of support and that it will not accept.
