Toronto – Ethnic Amhara Ethiopians staged a massive protest in London on this weekend  opposing what they described as “the suffering and systemic violence” of Amhara people in Ethiopia.

Protesters marched  in the streets of London chanting the slogans “Stop Amhara Genocide,” “Free all Political Prisoners,” and “No election while killing Amhara People” – among others. An estimated thousands of Ethiopians living in the country took part in the protest.  It was organized by the Fano support group.

Furthermore,  the protesters demanded that “the UN, the UK Foreign Office, and the global media open their eyes and hold the perpetrators accountable!”

There have been claims ,rightly so, that the massacre in the Amahra region of Ethiopia has been underreported.

The conflict in the region started well over three years ago when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Administration declared a statement of emergency on grounds that the “Amhara regional state invited the Federal government to intervene to restore law and order.”

The intent, as the government  stated at the time,  was to disarm the Fano forces. who took up arms to reverse “existential threat to the Amhara people.”

The armed groups emerged in response to what appeared at the time an unending and pervasive massacre of ethnic Amhara farming communities in most parts of the Oromia and Benishangul Gumuz region of Ethiopia.

Harassment of ethnic Amhara travellers between the Amhara region and Addis Ababa was another reason that contributed to the rise of Armed Resistance.

The Federal government military campaign in the Amhara region – which was stated to be only a few weeks – is still underway. Thousands of civilians have been killed in drone strikes and artillery shelling ; reputable human rights organizations have been calling for an end to the killings of civilians.

“Our chants shook the streets, and our message to the UK Government, international community, and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was crystal clear,” the organizers wrote after the protest.

There have been similar protests in the recent past in the same city.

  1. 1). Never expect a dove from a serpent’s egg: It is a no-brainer that ≥70% of ‘Ethiopian Diaspora’ are beneficiaries of former regimes that made Ethiopia “The World’s Poster Child of Poverty & Famine” and fled Ethiopia with their Bank Safety Deposit Boxes.

They didn’t even bother to airdrop 100g bread [10¢] for the famine victims! They never want any democratic election in Ethiopia since they want to retake power & rule again with iron fist [as before] via schemes like “All Inclusive Transitional Government.” Please play these two “World’s National Anthems for Ethiopia” at their rallies:

    i). ዋይ ዋይ ዋይ ሲሉ: → youtu.be/uF_Bv5VGSZ4
ii). We are the World: → youtu.be/I04FcfIVtcU?t=1

2). Ethiopia’s last election was held under on-site election scrutiny byAU/UN/EU/US. ALL 86 Ethiopian Ethnics elected their respective Ethnic Leaders in their respective Ethnic Zones. No opposition filed complaint! Abiy’s Party won! Abiy became PM!

ALL MUST RESPECT ELECTION RESULTS: Insurrection against elected governments is Domestic Terrorism. NO MERCY for Domestic Terrorists & Abettors!

3). Compare: Abiy catapulted Ethiopia from “The World’s Poster Child of Poverty & Famine” to “The World’s Poster Child of Prosperity & Greenery.” Under Abiy, Ethiopia shot from “Africa’s #1 Wheat Beggar” to “Africa’s #1 Wheat Producer” and Ethiopia’s Economy shot to #1 in Africa, too! Seeing is believing:

    i). Economy → #1 in Africa → 9.2% (IMF-WB): → [ youtu.be/c2RgEG-Eqzg ]
ii). Wheat Production & Export [FAO Award] → youtu.be/IFkIFUFWHgw
    iii). Africa’s #1 Wheat Producer: → youtu.be/ff5xtkraorc
