Third Edition of “Made in Ethiopia” expo launches in Addis Ababa

Toronto – Ethiopia this week launched the third edition of “Made in Ethiopia” expo. PM Abiy Ahmed and members of his government attended the opening ceremony.

“‘Made in Ethiopia’ movement has yielded encouraging progress in developing the country’s manufacturing sector. Over the past three and a half years, industrial production capacity has increased from 46 percent to 61 percent,” Abiy Ahmed remarked. 

The expo  will remain open for five days. 

According to government sources, 288 businesses in the country are showcasing locally produced products. 

The government is making claims that value added products in the manufacturing sector have shown a $3.95 billion increase in a span of two years.   The Ministry of Planning and Development is cited as saying  “Ethiopia’s manufacturing value added rose significantly—from approximately $5.3 billion in the 2014 Ethiopian calendar fiscal year to $9.25 billion in 2016—reflecting the real output growth mentioned above.”

However, there have been reservations when it comes to data accuracy that the ruling prosperity party government announces. In its latest reports the party made claims that “three million jobs were created in nine months,” during the current fiscal year.
